Acetone, I worked at a cleaners and this is what we used to remove ink from all clothes, even the drycleaning...
You can also use WD-40...it will not harm your clothes at all, it the wd-40 will wash right out in the wash.
I have not tried either one of these on marker stains, only ink.
Neither one will harm your shirt

I use a product called EXIT soap and it is absolutely amazing. My niece came over and got hold of a sharpie and drew a beautiful picture on my lounge, I was so impressed. I was in tears!

I called my mum and she came over with a little yellow bar of soap called "EXIT soap". You won't believe how easy the stain came out, I now have a bar in the car, hand bag and glove compartment.

I have used Exit soap as well and swear by it, my mum put me on to it a couple of years ago and I don't know what I would do with out it.

By the way it will get your permanent maker out with out a problem!

Household products to try would be white vinegar....or hairspray......or nail polish remover.......

remember to blot.....back stain with a white paper towel

If that doesn't work, you could try GooGone.....found in the paint center of most large home improvement centers in the US....

HOT water and cascade crystals. soak overnight (a few hours at a time) a few times. don't use lemon scented. use regular.
it might not all come out, but enough that you can do something like use a white pen over it.

blotting with rubbing alcohol while backing with clean white cloth or paper towel - another product that works really well and doesn't harm fabrics is lighter fluid!
