I'm doing some DIY and I'm making a feature of where the fireplace used to be in the main bedroom. I'm looking for some sort of solution or paint that's fire resistant as I want to put some candles etc in the fire. Does anyone know of anything? It's only going to be a few candles so it wont be getting that hot but better to be safe than sorry. It would be to protect some plasterboard that I forgot to tile.

Tilling isnt an option now as it's a cost factor.

you need to tile for the best wipe clean effect (Smoke from the candles will blacken the area) or a gloss paint used for outdoors

Fire resistant homes can and are built, but even a fire resistant home is vulnerable to forest fires, because of how big, and how hot the fire gets. Just like you can make a wind resistant home, but if hurricane winds, or tornado winds get high enough it will still destroy the house. One would need to create a Fire proof, house to help the people in southern California.

Depends how close the candles will be to the plasterboard. If its a foot or so, normal paint should be ok, just bear in mind that you may get soot marks.

If you want to be safe not sorry then money does not come into the equation, you can buy a box of tiles for less than it would cost to redecorate due to fire.

You say its for some plasterboard that you forgot to tile. Why not just tile it now that you've remembered?

There is a fire resistant cement, ask at your local hardware super store, spread that on the inner fire place and paint it with grate blacking.

Im sure if you ask in B&Q etc they will be able to help you.
I think its Homebase, but they have this button that you press for help, if someone doesnt attend to you in a certain amount of time (maybe 5 mins) then you get your stuff for free!
