there is a degreaser called simple green,i think k mart sells it in the automotive cleaning isle. try it in an inconspicuous spot first, if it don't bleach the carpet go for it. spray it directly onto the stain and scrub with a brush and hot water then use a shop vac or carpet cleaner to suck up the water. afterwords use fabric softener mixed with water to soften the carpet and to kill some of the degreaser smell.
that's what i do when my kid spills something and i learned that from detailing cars.

Hi
I would recommend using a wet vac and slowly pour water on he spot and vacuum it up at the same time to remove the residue. The stain may come back in a few days so you may have to do it a few times. If the stain is still visible than use a little carpet spotter on it. Please DO NOT put anything on the carpet that was not made for carpet. At this point if the stain is still there please call a carpet cleaner. What I have suggested will not lock the stain in.

I never believed in the stuff but Oxi Clean works miracles.
Few scoops into a spray bottle with warm water and you'll watch the stains go away.
Even seen it take dark purple market out of white carpet, took 4 times but it came all out.
Get the big bucket....stuff works great on ciggarette tar, ash trays, stains in clothes, etc....works on many items.
