I over heard a doctor saying that young people ( I think he meant 40 and younger) will immediately ask for pain meds, all the time. They seem to relish in their sickness and don't try to get up and go (within reason). He then said that older people (40 and up) don't really like to take pain meds, and are ready to go (within reason) they try harder.

So do you think that younger people just want a quick fix, and refuse to deal with pain and would rather have pain meds even though addiction is a high risk?

Or is that doctor full of bull?

Ok so i am 14 and i felt this pain when I yelled at my brother who was on the other floor (I did that so he could hear me). At first it was very acute but it became much easier later on. It feels like somebody is squishing my brain in the back of my head. Right now, (one day after the initial pain), I only feel the pain when i shake my head. What is this pain??

I have this really bad scar on my knees. It all happened last year when i was playing soccer on hard cement path way and i feel. It heeled but was quite tender, afterwards i was running and then i feel on it again. This time i bled and it became a lot darker. Every time i run my fingers along it it feels really hard. It is literally dark coal black. I am really embarrassed about it. At school it is compulsory to wear a dress, all the girls ask what it is, and some even tell me how awful it looks. It never really got to me, i just thought that the scar would eventually fade. A few weeks ago, i decided to go to the doctors, he said that the scar would probably not fade away as i get older since. Its a type of scar that doesnt go away. He said that he could inject it with some stuff to help flatten it out or i could buy these really exspensive cream at the chemist. The doctor said that he cant guarantee that any of these stuff would work. What do i do?

hey guys.i was woken up by my dad this mornin,he was crying and he told me they called an ambulance for my sister.she had been in bed or the last 3 days throwing up and stuff and my parents had called a doctor this morning and he suggested to call an ambulance;so they called.They took her in the ambulance about 20minutes ago.they say she might have appendicitus..can you die from this?she seemed in a lot of pain,what could happen now?i need answers =( I'm home alone and scared

I constantly bite my nails, my lips, the inside of my cheeks, my tongue, and food. I seem to have an oral fixation, a sort of anxious habit, but it is becoming very harmful. My mouth is always sore and often bleeding, yet I cannot stop. My dentist told me that biting the inside of my mouth to extremes is, in a sense, self-mutilation. It has got to stop.

I'm wondering if hypnosis, such as at Positive Changes, could help with my stress management and get rid of my biting? I've read testimonials about people who have stopped biting their nails, but what if mine is more than my nails? I'm also afraid that if I get rid of biting, that my anxious habit will simply transfer to something else, like the people who stop food addictions and become alchoholics. What should I do?

a friend thought it would be funny to go really fast in a car over a set of railroad tracks and make the car fly into the air. it didnt feel like they were going any rediculous speeds, but definately over the limit, and i hit my head on the roof of the car. i get headaches from EVERYTHING and right now i have a minor headache, mainly in the area where i hit the roof. my friend told me not to go to sleep because i could have a concussion. other than my headache, i feel fine. upon reading though, i read that that could be a minor concussion. i dont think i have one. but better safe than sorry. anyone got any quick information whos intelligent in the medical field and not just taking a guess, asap?

My finger was extremely swollen for about 2 1/2 weeks and very sore even still. The joint nearest the tip of the finger is still slightly swollen and painful. Unfortunately I am a musician and I use my fingers to play the piano. (also for typing) I have tried to not use that finger but it doesn't always work out. I figured it would get better so I didn't go to the doctor's or hospital. Now, the pain is still there and the weird (slightly numb) feeling on the tip when I touch or use my finger. Do you think it is (or was) broken or dislocated? What can I do for it? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I went and saw a Dr. at a Conveint Care and was given Amoxicillian 875 mg and an antibiotic ear drop on Monday. My ear is clogged up and still hurts and my face and neck are still swollen. Should I go back to the Dr. or should I wait a little while longer for the antibiotics to work?

i read the side effects and did research and i wont allow them to take them. it has weight loss and memory loss and can do some real harm. and the stupid doctor gave them a bottle with 60 pills each and 11 refills. can this do some real harm are kill hem?? and do i need a new neurologist??

I got a cut on my bottom which is a difficult area to treat. For three days it is bleeding and in pain. Whenever I move - walk or sit, the cut bursts open and starts bleeding and hurts so bad. I put bandages, also taped layers of toilet paper- it keeps bleeding through and all my clothes and furniture are getting bloody to the point I haven't been able to go out and don't have insurance to go to the doctor. Please help! I can't take it anymore and am scared there will be a scar once it gets healed if it ever does.

i have a sharp pain 6 inches down and 2 inches left of my belly button that only hurts when i move the wrong way. along with this pain is a pain of my left spermatic chord. i have had the pain off and on for 4 years now and it gets set off when i do strenuous activity or fall hard on it. for example back when i ran cross country it was really bad and i recently fell snowboarding and it got really bad. i have no idea what this is i know it sounds weird. i have been to several doctors and have been diagosed with at least 5 different things but no one knows what it is. if you have any idea please let me know

For the past 3 days now, I have been feeling EXTREMELY tired mostly around 5pm each of the nights. And each of the nights I keep feeling more tired to the point where I was at work today around that time and I just couldnt keep my eyes open anymore and I was just so out of it as if I were 'on something' but I am not...any idea of what this is? I'm having a lot of weird sensation on my back, specially if I press the front of my neck (throat area). My doctor referred me to a physical therapist, but my condition seemed to be getting worst.
