I had a 'ingrown verruca' been their for years and went to the Doc who used some new ice procedure, had to dig deep to get it out. I walked out of the office, and was able to walk for the rest of the week. I would see the Doc as he will remove it and reckon you will be able to continue sports. Good Luck

Like other warts, verrucas are caused by strains of papillomavirus. There is lots of papillomavirus around, and many people carry it on the surface of their skin. It does not cause any harm unless it penetrates into the skin, where it can take hold and cause a wart. This is most likely to happen if the surface of your skin is already damaged, with tiny cracks. Most people believe that verrucas are caught in the changing rooms of swimming pools and the pool surrounds, but only one scientific study has shown that people who use swimming pools regularly are more likely to get verrucas. Other studies have shown no link. There is probably plenty of papillomavirus around swimming pools, particularly in the shower area. However, you are very unlikely to get a verruca if your skin is undamaged. If you want to minimize the risk, wear flip-flops in the shower area. ;D

Hi there!
If you dont want to go to a doctor, then there are some products in the pharmacy that is very effective to remove verucca. One of the product that works really well is the Scholl freeze Verucca removal. What it does basically freeze the verucca using a very cold liquid nitrogen until the cells die and eventually fall off.
Trying to burn it or cutting it off without a proper tools and techniques may cause infection and makes it even harder to treat.
