I just removed a very small tick from me. After removing it, I have discovered that it left a small purple dot right where it bit. Should I be concerned?

Though some people will have a slight allergic reaction to the saliva the ticks use to make the blood easier to get and digest, most people will have a small redish to purple dot where the tick was. The main concern is that you have gotten the head out as well. If you experience any dizziness, headaches, flu like symptoms, fever and etc. you need to go to your doctor or the emergency room to be checked out. Put some hydrogen peroxide on it, and then some sort of antiseptic. If the dot doesn't do away by Monday, then call your doctor and set the earliest appointment.

Here are some common ticks that humans encounter: American dog tick, lone star tick, blacklegged (deer) tick, brown dog tick and winter tick.

Some of the diseases you can get from a tick bite are Lyme disease, ehrlichiosis, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and tularemia

If you develop a large rash and those flu like symptoms than you might have be infected with one of the above diseases. These are noticed about 1 week after the bite and worsen with time.

It sounds like you have just a mild reaction, with that you can take some Benadryl, but keep an eye on it JUST in case things get worse.

Watch it closely,Lyme disease comes from a tick bite. Did you save the tick? If you did you could have someone identify what kind it is. if it is the deer tick that causes Lyme disease you could start preventive medicine now. Lyme disease is nasty and slow to respond to treatment once it gets going. Good luck.

If he sunk into you, yes. When removing a tick that has bit into you, light a match, then blow it out and touch him with the match head; or put the end of a paperclip over a flame and touch him with that, then he'll let go.

No. Ticks will lose their heads in your body when you pull them out but they can't live without their heads. Apply some rubbing alcohol or clear fingernail polish to suffocate it. You'll be fine.

Don't be concerned but watch it closely and see if it forms an infection.

It could be a deer tick, & they can cause nasty problems. If you see a "bullseye" looking red spot around the area in which you were bitten, Please go to your doctor, it can be lime's diease. Dont fool with it.

Get it checked out ASAP. It can cause Lyme disease and trust me you don't need that. Get checked out and get on antibiotics.
