I have this really bad scar on my knees. It all happened last year when i was playing soccer on hard cement path way and i feel. It heeled but was quite tender, afterwards i was running and then i feel on it again. This time i bled and it became a lot darker. Every time i run my fingers along it it feels really hard. It is literally dark coal black. I am really embarrassed about it. At school it is compulsory to wear a dress, all the girls ask what it is, and some even tell me how awful it looks. It never really got to me, i just thought that the scar would eventually fade. A few weeks ago, i decided to go to the doctors, he said that the scar would probably not fade away as i get older since. Its a type of scar that doesnt go away. He said that he could inject it with some stuff to help flatten it out or i could buy these really exspensive cream at the chemist. The doctor said that he cant guarantee that any of these stuff would work. What do i do?

I had the very same experience years ago when I fell. I landed on my left knee. There was a big open gash wound. It bled profusely. as it was a blunt trauma. I applied Neosporin oint after washng it and dressed it. I should have gone to the doctor to have it sutured to hasten the healing, prevent infection and then avoid a nasty scar. Anyway, it took a long time to heal.as the knee is mobile joint. The area was tender. and bruised. Anyway, there was a scar. However, eventually, the scar faded and became lightened..

There is a cream on the market that I used recently on an abdominal surgery scar which seems to help. It's called Mederma. The tube is expensive as it cost over $20.00.
However, it's effective when applied to the fresh scar once a day. For old scars, you need to apply it at least twice a day or even more.

Sometimes, you shouldn't believe everything that the doctor says. Once, I injured my finger and there was a big blood clot formed on the nailbed. Dr said I will lose the nail. I just prick little holes on the fingernail and expressed the blood slowly everyday. Soon the blood disappeared and the injured finger healed. Now the discoloration is completely gone.

During school, to avoid embarrassment, you should try to cover your wounded knee with a light, loose dressing with gauze or big bandaid.. In time, you'll notice that it would heal and there would hardly be a scar as you're still very young. Your skin is still very elastic.

Most of the scars flatten and fade with time. Some scars like yours are called hypertrophic scars. They take longer time to resolve. Don't fret, give your body time to heal.
Steroid injections definitely improve the scar, but the effect is shortlived.
Some expensive local treatments like silicone occlusive dressing may be effective for some.
Lastly, if the scar is big, raised and ugly, you can visit a plastic surgeon and get it removed and a skin graft applied.

I don't have one that bad but I had a scar right between my eyes from a sledding accident. my mom told me to buy those vitamin E pills, split them open and rub it on the scar. The scar isn't invisible but it helped a noticable amount. Good luck

In my honest opinion, you should learn to live with it. I'm not saying this in a mean way. Even though it might seem embarrassing there's not a whole lot you can do about a scar, as it doesn't usually go away.
