I recently had surgery and the wound is starting to heal. The problem is that when I cover the wound with a gauze pad (as instructed), it either catches on the stitches (painful) or gets clotted with blood and, when I remove it, it pulls off the scab that otherwise is protecting the healing incision. My question is that is it okay (no detrimental effects) to place a thin coat of vaseline on the gauze before applying it, or to use pre-made petroleum jelly-coated gauze? Or is this inadvisable and why? Thanks for anyone who can help!!!! :-)

Yeah, self determination, really wanting to, I know. Truth is I really want to but end up "changing my mind". I've tried patches, they give me hives. The gum burns my tongue. Lazor didn't work for me either. Neither did "cold turkey" I have seen all the photo's, read all the stats, ect. Not enough. I am not against meds, but I don't know anyone who has used them, so I am unsure if that would really work. Please help! All serious suggestions would be appreciated!

This morning I woke up and gave myself a good stretch. When I turned my head to the left side when stretching, it cracked. Now it hurts when I turn it either side, more when I turn it to the left. Can anyone tell me what happened, and should I go get x-rays?

I have a problem with pain my upper back between the shoulder blades, this is usually fine during the day however after going to sleep for around 3 to 4 hours i wake with the pain, staying in bed, moving into different positions does not help, pain killers seem to do nothing only make me feel drousey. but i still cannot sleep as the pain keeps me awake, so i take myself downstairs and sit infront of the tv. the pain subsides in anything between half an hour to 2 hours, i can then go back to bed and get another 3 to 4 hours before i wake again.
I have seen a back specialist and 3 physio therapist each one has a different opinion of the problem. they have all given me exercise's or treatment with little or no success. the problem has been on going for around seven months now
I have tried traditional chinese accupuncture which has had no effect. i have tried numerous mattresses with no effect. I just moved to Newfoundland, Canada from th UK and am looking for a chiropractor in my area

I have recently had confrontations with several hospitals and medical labs which all subcontract their billing.

The subcontractors "block out" their caller IDs (e.g. 'Out of Area', with no tel. number given), misrepresent themselves (e.g. as as "Patient Services"), do not allow direct calls back to the person that you last spoke to, send out "Reminders", before an invoice is actually mailed, do not itemize their bills (e.g. six times on one bill "Hospital Services", no codes, no additional information given).

Note, I pay all invoices on time.

One Hospital's "Enforcer" started with daily harassing calls on Monday when the invoice had arrived only on Saturday (i.e. with still 2 weeks to pay). They next called at 2am on Tuesday. The hospital's administrative offices refused to even look into the issue of an incorrectly issued invoice. The harassing calls stopped only after I threatened to submit my file to the State's "Dept of Health and Senior Services".

Had similar experiences?

I have a very painful back injury with severe sciatica that just won't go away. I've been taking percocet and/or lortabs for the better part of the last 2 years. The last 3 weeks, I have barely been able to walk, and have been in the ER twice because the pain was unbearable, apparently physical therapy has done more harm than good. So, my doc recently put me on oxycontin & I'm still supposed to take lortabs for breakthrough pain. This is day 4. and the only real difference I notice is that I'm very constipated...sorry...TMI, just want some more info on oxy.

Hi everyone,

I hope someone can help me with this. Every night i am unable to fall asleep. I will be on my bed twisting and turning for hours at a time. Most of the time i do this for about 5-6 hours before i finally fall asleep. I tried breathing techniques, sleeping pills, warm water/milk, listening to music, brainwave manipulation programs from the internet and nothing works...

I spend so much time trying to fall asleep the most sleep i ever get is only 2-3 hours (4 for the most).. Which results in an exhausting day when i get up the next morning.

As far as i can remember I HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM ALL MY LIFE!!!!!!

I have suffered so much from this under my eyes have sunk and my face looks wrinkled and old!!! I AM 16 BUT PEOPLE TELL ME I LOOK LIKE 18-19!!!!!!!! Sometimes i even feel to faint and i occasionally get blurred vision due to lack of sleep..lack of concentration and i even feel suicidal..

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!
ANYTHING APPRECIATED

I hurt my back at work about 3 weeks ago. And of coarse they are putting me through the run around, trying not to pay for it. But that is only part of my problem.

I am having serious muscle spasms over the spine in the upper back. I went to the ER three times. As a result I got pain relievers and muscle relaxers. The pills they gave me just make me numb and are not helping. And in the mean time my work is being EXTREMELY difficult . I was wondering if anyone has has similar issues that have persisted for weeks and hasn't gotten better. This is taking a toll on me since I cannot work or walk for more then 10 minutes at a time. I also feel very weak all over and feel short on breath.

Anyone else have this issue or know how to help?

Also, I followed my doctors at the ER instructions: Heat/Ice, rest but not too much.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi. My question is, other then stress or problems with your eyes, why could you be getting headaches everyday?
Im 16 [almost 17] and for about 2 years now, Ive always had a headache. In the beginning I took advil, tylonal, ibeprof. but they never helped.
I've been to the doctor lately, and eye my eyes checked, and theyre fine. Ive also talked to my normal doctor and he put me on muscle relaxers. Though, these dont help either!
The headaches are getting worse lately. Theres more pain then usual. To the point I could just break down and cry. And even more recently theyve been making me sick to my stomach. So its hard to get through a normal school day.
Its definatly not stress because I meditate to get rid of it, and believe me it helps.
So does anyone out there have anything similar, or past experiences? PLEASE HELP!!!

I can always feel the back part of my head aching whenever i am under a strong sunlight.
It has been like this for a more than a year.
I suppose it is nothing too serious.
But I am just curious about it.
Can anyone tell me what it is about?
A link of where you find your sources will be useful. Thanks

I heard that you could stab someone in the brain and they would not feel it. Is that true? Does the brain not have nerves? From what I understand, you basically feel pain because of nerves.

So, my hips seem to be double-jointed. I can "pop" it out and in. Till now it's just been a "party trick"--but when I show people they get grossed out.

A few months ago I was doing lunges with weights and my right hip popped out, but too far, and I was in a lot of pain, missed 2 days of work because of it.

My dad's a doctor and he thinks it's normal. I've also asked an orthopedic doc a few years ago, when I had an unrelated running injury, about it, and he didn't know what to say.

Anyone have any light to shed??

My wife has daily disabling migraine attacks. She wakes up every day with a migraine.... some days are worse than others.... but she basically has no life, and things have been getting worse. We discovered some time back due to a routine dental procedure that Nitrous Oxide at the dentist's office eliminates her migraines for the rest of the day.

I'd like to know if it is even possible to get approved/certified or a prescription of this for home use to alleviate her horrible pain. She has been unable to work now for 5 years, has seen many doctors for the migraines... has been hospitalized for it, has had shots, preventatives, interventive drugs.... but there has been nothing that has really done much for her.

This is a really big deal and we are grasping at straws. Any help is appreciated.

I had a fracture in my ankle about 3 months ago. When I got my leg brace off a month ago it felt pretty good. But now my ankle is starting to hurt again.

I don't really want to go to my doctor, so is there anything I can do around home to "re-heal" my ankle? (like keeping it warm or cold)
