Hey sorry to hear you hurt your knee, I had the exact same injury so I know what it's like!
After the surgery you will probably have to use crutches for minimum of 2 weeks and wear the brace for a similar or slightly shorter amount of time. This depends on how well your muscles recover and also on your surgeons preferences - some surgeons I know don't use a brace at all.
The crutches are used initially to limit the amount of weight you can put through your leg because it will be a bit painful but once the pain has gone down a bit the main reason you use the crutches is because the surgery causes the muscles at the front of your leg to get a bit weak. And when these muscles aren't working properly you put extra strain on the new ligament, which is not what you want when it's trying to heal. The brace is used for similar reasons and also to help make sure you can get your leg straight as sometimes this can be quite difficult after the operation.
The most important things are to follow the instructions given to you by your surgeon and physiotherapist and do all the exercises you are given to the letter. These will all help to speed up your recovery and help prevent any problems with the range of motion of your knee and to help get your muscles strong again.
Good luck with the surgery and I hope you have a quick recovery and a good Christmas!

PS: I had my surgery in 2005 and I'm more than back to playing all different kinds of sports at high levels with no problems from my knee.

well, after surgery you'll probably be immediately in rehab. Crutches depend on the doctor you have, but it's common to only use them for 1-2 weeks with some weight bearing.

The brace will probably be used for as long as needed or until you can start walking with all of your weight on your leg. A different, smaller brace will probably be used afterwards.

I don't know how long your break is, but you shouldn't have to use crutches too long

You will be on crutches after having surgery, and you may wear the brace about 2-8 weeks depending on your what your doctor orders. You will probably be on crutches after you go back to school (unless you have a 6 week Christmas break). Here are some articles that may help you feel more comfortable about your surgery:

She might be nice. My husband had knee surgical procedure three years in the past and he is nice. Technology nowadays are very reliable. Don't fear. I realize she is fearful and I additionally could be with any surgical procedure, however simply do not forget, they do realize what they're doing and participate in knee surgical procedures day-to-day. They do have anyone who will watch over her important indicators even as surgical procedure is in method. I'm definite they have got a best crew to safeguard her.
