I know they say its not contagious but I spend all day with him and I have had this cold off and on for a while. I had had a cough but it was loose. Now its started to sound harsh, like a barking kind of cough. Whats else could it be? I dont have asthma or any other respiratory problems before.

I am almost 17 years old, and an occasional smoker. On average, I smoke about 1-2 cigarettes a day. Recently, I've had strange pains in my chest area, especially when I smoke. It is like a stinging sensation, and also a slight ache towards the left and right of my chest. My breathing is fine (mostly), but I do feel slightly out of breath. The pain does not get worse when I take a breath. I am not sure if this is a cold, pleurisy, pneumonia, or lung cancer and I'm not sure if I should call my doctor or wait a while. Thanks.

Is it even possible? I have a prescription inhaler (albuterol) but I haven't taken it in a long time, since my asthma died down. I tried taking it today (doctor's dosage (2 puffs)) for some leftover gunk in my lungs due to a recent cold. Over half an hour later, and I've got a really elevated heart rate and I can literally feel myself shaking. I'm worried that I might have taken too much, because this hasn't happened before. Is is possible that since the medication was out of my system for so long that I ended up taking too big a hit?

For about a year now when ever my boyfriend falls asleep especially after working long hours, he wakes up wheezing and can barely breathe., He is extremely afraid that he is going to die in his sleep. . He coughs unproductively and cant seem to get the "spider webs" out. Does anyone else suffer from these symptoms? He uses an inhaler but it doesn't seem to be enough. The last time we went to the ER he took a 3 day course of Zithromax. Could he have a lingering infection? If so, how do we know? During the day when he is working and not sleeping he doesn't seem to have the intense symptoms. He used to be a loud snorer and and now he is mainly just wheezing. Help!

I have that cold/flu thing that everyone seems to be getting - coughing, blocked sinuses, fever, no energy. My sinuses are quite a bit better but the cough will NOT GO AWAY. This is day 11 and it's shown no real sign of improvement. Every couple minutes I'm hacking up teeny, tiny pieces of phlegm (not discolored except in the morning). The doctors are so overbooked that they don't want to see anyone whose fever isn't over 101. I've tried home remedies I found online like hot tea, honey, apple cider vinegar, peroxide in the ears, cough syrup - nothing is working. I'm going nuts trying to get rid of this thing - any ideas?

I have had a persistent problem for more than 5 years now: at night and early in the morning I feel my throat bloacking up and every breath irritates and 'tickles' the back of the throat. This causes coughing and gagging. I have also vomited a number of times due to this. But strangely most of the times having a few sips of water cures this. I have this happen to me everyday and its so annoying! I dont know if its asthma, allergy or dry cough. Please help!

I started CPAP 3 months ago and feel much better but have read and been told by several people that you have an incresed chance of a bacterial infection in the lining around the brain and spinal cord (meningitis) while using one. Has anyone heard of someone getting this while using CPAP?

Occasionally, especially when I'm sick, one nostril or the other will seem "clogged up". Blowing my nose doesn't help, but I find that if I lie down for a while, then get up, it might clear up for several seconds. Also, taking a breath of the outside air (I live in Michigan and it's winter, so it's nice and snowy--and cold--outside) seems to help a little.

Any suggestions?

My lung collapsed about a month ago, a little less. I was in the hospital for about 48 hours, during which time a chest tube was inserted and my lung reinflated.

Today, I have been experiencing most of the same symptoms except for the EXTREME pain. I feel and hear bubbling in my chest. My shoulder hurts in the exact same place. And the new symptom is the pain I experience whenever I laugh or cough (the coughing is new, I didn't cough last time).

So I'm kinda scared I might have to go back to the emergency room; I really don't want to. Is this the kind of thing I can waste time on and ask strangers on Yahoo!, or should I just skip that and seek medical attention?
