Depends on what's causing it. Antihistamines will work if it's allergy related, but if you take them too long, they can have a rebound effect, where the stuffy comes back even worse than before. However, if it is because of a cold, the very best thing I have ever tried is Alka Seltzer Cold Meds...they come in different flavors, but the lemon is problably the least vile. I just put the tabs in a small amount (4 oz) water, hold my nose, and down it. You don't have to get all the stuff in the bottom of the glass! This takes care of cough, runny/stuffy nose, aches and pains, ect. As with anything, if you even think you might be preggers, ask a pharmacist before using.

Then perhaps its time to talk to the doctor. I've been battling stuffy nose syndrome for 32 years. I did nasal sprays for three years, fought it all my life and now back on nasal sprays again.
The other alternatives are a steroid nasal spray but they didn't help me. The final alternative is surgery. And I am not ready for them to cut on my sinus cavity. I am however going to talk to my doctor at my next physical about the vain expandable coil for vain blockage. They may laugh at me but its far better than having to depend upon nasal sprays and cutting on me.

What I had to do when I got sick down in college was buy night quill and make sure you take it when you're about to go to bed or when you're not about to leave somewhere. It makes me drowsy when I take it so I just wait until I go to bed then take it. It should help because I notice whenever I think I'm catching a cold I end up taking some and it helps me.......hope that helps
