I have a fourteen yr old daughter who had what I thought was a virus two weeks ago.Glands up all over the place and general malaise. It didn't improve and she developed severe sore throat and a mouth full of ulcers. GP diagnosed tonsilitis but said it could well be glandular fever as it had been a long time and so many glands were still affected. She has been taking penicillin for 4 days now but has not really improved. I have heard that g.f. can sometimes be related to, or wrongly diagnosed as M.E. We are not a wimpy family. I don't go rushing to the doctor for the slightest little thing, so I am reluctant to suggest this rather controversial 'condition' to my GP. This was the first time we had consulted her since we registered two years ago. Anyone have any ideas or experiences?

My nephew is 15 months. Two weeks ago he was hospitalized due to croup, treated with antibiotics then sent home after three days. Two days after he was discharged, he developed rotovirus and became severely dehydrated, taken to the ER and given IV fluids, then sent home. He was doing well the rest of that week, had a follow-up with his doc last Thurs, she siad he look great. Then Friday, my sister in law said he was fine all day, took a nap, after he woke up, he was febrile with a 103.5 temp.

He's been in the hospital since Friday, had multiple blood work done. His first set of blood cultures (that was taken when he was admitted) showed there was strep bacteria in his blood. He's been on IV antibiotics from the start, had a kidney and bladder ultrasound done (came out normal). He doesn't have any sores or anything. I'm concerned of how this bacteria got to his blood? Could it have been from the respiratory or diarrhea he had? His doctor doesn't seem to have any answers.

Hi,
My wife had some blood tests done due to her pregnancy. It found that she is not pregnant. But in the report i see something like this below:

Rubella (AB)
Result : Positive
Reference Range : NEG

Indicates Presence of IgG Antibody.
A positive result indicated immunity.

What does this mean?
What is Rubella?
Is it dangerous?

Thanks,

We just back from the doctor. She said she didn't think it was rotovirus, but neuro virus. I am pregnant and I need to know the risk of me getting it, like incubation time and time that symptoms resolve themselves. I am not sure of the spelling of neuro virus.

The problem is some inflamed lump on both sides of the face from ears to the end of the jaws. You can see that something is not right when you look at the mirror. When it becomes bigger it's painfull plus fever and everything like you have a flu. Sometimes we get a big lump on a neck. Doctors are not telling us what the problem, they do not know, the treatment - antibiotics. The problem is that it's not going away, you can still feel that not everything is right until next time. Please, let me know may be somebody had same problem and knows what to do.

In the case of a moderate stomach flu, should you try to prevent diarrhea or bring down a mild fever? Why or why not? What is the MOST important thing you should do for the patient?

I just want to do some light dusting and vacuuming. I have had a really high fever (103) and not sure how much rest I need. Should I stay in bed, or is walking around okay? I don't really like to rest.

when you are taking antibiotics when you have the test. I noticed a sign in the clinic saying that you should state if you are on antibiotics when you have your blood test for the above done. My sister had the blood test and it came back negative but she takes antibiotics for urinary tract infections regularly and is now worried that these may have affected the testing. We weren't asked this question by the nurse or health advisor when she took the test. She has contacted NHS Direct and are waiting for somebody to get back to us - in the meantime does anybody know if she may have to take the test again?

What were the symptoms? How soon after you ate the food did you get the symptoms? I think I might have food poisoning; this morning I got sick and last night I ate a questionable ham sandwich.
