I am just wondering.
Because sites say that hiv can live for up to days in room temperature. but what if it was on a cold surface

Always thought it died when it hit the air, but according to the CDC it can only survive for a few hours outside of the body.

HIV is very unstable on a surface. It dies quickly. I think you are probably thinking about hepatitis which can live on a surface for 3 days.
