Hi,
My wife had some blood tests done due to her pregnancy. It found that she is not pregnant. But in the report i see something like this below:

Rubella (AB)
Result : Positive
Reference Range : NEG

Indicates Presence of IgG Antibody.
A positive result indicated immunity.

What does this mean?
What is Rubella?
Is it dangerous?

Thanks,

All this means is that she has been exposed to Rubella at some point in her life and she is now immune to it. I'd also assume she was probably exposed through a vaccine, as most people have been vaccinated for Rubella.

This is completely normal and nothing to worry about. They just check this to make sure that she is immune to Rubella and can't catch it during pregnancy because it could cause serious harm to the baby.

Good luck, congratulations and best wishes with your new arrivall!!!

Rubella - German Measles.

A positive antibody test merely means she has had it or exposed to it in the past and is currently protected from catching it (immune).

Rubella is fairly safe for adults to get, basically more of a pain in the but than serious, unless you are fairly old or have a compromised immune system.

However, for a woman to catch it while pregnant could be catastrophic for the unborn child.

Your wife being positive is a good thing, if you guys decide to have children.
