After doing some research, I am almost certain that I have dry-socket where my wisdom tooth was removed a week ago. I will visit to the oral surgeon tomorrow, but I'd like to know now whether there will be any lasting/permanent effects from dry-socket and not treating it sooner.

They felt okay until I rinsed with salt water yesterday, now the side of my face is swollen and the bottom hurts really bad under my jaw area. Is this normal or do I have a dry socket. Please only real answers, not stupid ones.

I am seriously considering becoming a dental hygienist or dental assistant and thus want experience working in the field.

The problem is that the nearest dental clinic is an hour away from where I live and therefore a huge hassle. Is it wrong 2 volunteer @ a local dentist's private practice 2 get a feel 4 what the work environment is like?

Upper Left Molar tooth. I do have horrible insurance but I don't believe it will cover the removal of a tooth. How much (w/o) insurance would it cost for them to pull a molar tooth..THX!

In some commericals and other sources that drinking a lot of ice tea is bad for your enamel? is this true or somekind of myth? Cause i drink a lot of it and theres pretty much nothing wrong with my teeth from what i heard my dentist say.

I used to think this way about medical doctors until I got into the dental field myself. I soon found out that the money that they charge goes to pay for everything from salaries to the paper clips the office uses. Of course it doesn't cost $800.00 for an actual crown. You are paying for alot more than that. I know that it is hard to understand when you are not in the field, but I deal with the same thing when I take my pets to the vet. I just try to realize that they are charging what is necessary to pay for the overhead in the office. Please don't think that they are money hungry. They don't pocket everything you pay them. Have some just had bad experiences with a dentist or do you really think they are like this?

Last weekend I was eating a hamburger bun and I felt my ear pop. I originally thought it was my ear, but I guess I pulled a muscle or pulled my jaw or something out of place. So for about 5 minutes I couldn't shut my left jaw all the way if I tried shutting my right. In other words, It didn't hurt if I shut my left jaw down itself but if I tried to shut the right side, the left hurt really really bad. The pain was gone by about 30 minutes later and I could shut it. It only hurt if I chewed food on the right side of my mouth but not very bad. Eventually by Mon. it was totally gone. But last night it came back even worse and is still here right now. Is this something for the dentist or what?(By the way, If I push down with my finger on the side that hurts(left) it doesn't hurt at all, so I don't think it's a tooth or teeth)

I went to the dentist with pain in my back molars, upper and lower for several months. He finally told me I needed two root canals. One upper and one lower. I continued to have pain in both teet for 4-6 weeks after the prcedure. I went back and he said my teeth needed to be ground down. He did that and there seem to be some relief but within a day the pain was back. I went back and he did another xray and after mouning and groaning over the pictures he announced there was another root in my upper and a possible hairline fracture in the lower. He had me come back and did another root canal on the upper molar and he charged me for anothe root canal. My lower molar seemed better so he suggested we leave it alone.
Do you think I should have to pay for the additional root canal? or the Hairline fracture? Shouldn't these things have shown up on the first Xrays and did he cause the Frature during that root canal? How do I know? Is this the practice of a good dentist?
I feel scammed.
