I've been working out 5 days a week and I'm gaining a ton of muscle...I can out lift a few of my guy friends. But I'm not losing weight. I know muscle weighs more than fat but I can't see any change other than my muscles poking out more. I'm really concerned about the belly fat that just will not go away. So my friend told me about the vegetarian lifestyle and I've been doing it for about a week and I know its not an instant thing but I'd like to know...how soon should I be seeing results? Like I said, I'm very musclular but there is a layer of fat on top of it that I would like to send packing, so if anyone could help it would be greatly aprectiated. THANKS!!

Wheat gluten is what seitan is made from. Unless you make your own, I'd be concerned about the sourcing of the seitan.

My sister recently decided to become a vegetarian. I was little worried at first because her eating habbits aren't that good and she doesn't have a lot of money to suppliment or buy the good food. I voiced my concerns to her but she only got angry and said if I cared about her, I would support her choice as an animal lover. So, I left it alone. I bring her healthy, vegetarian groceries and iron suppliments and iron/protien rich foods as much I can.
But her health is deteriorating. She is foggy and skinnier than heck. She's having a hard time with her studies and is super cranky. I know that some people can function very well without meat, but I don't think she or anyone in my family can.
Should I back off? Should I try to convince her that this is not a healthy choice for her? Is there anything else she could suppliment with that I haven't tried?
Any advice is much appreciated!

I just got a LOT of carrots, cucumbers, onions and potatoes, how can I store them so they will last as long as possible? Also, how do you make pickles from cucumbers?

I know, it's kind of random....but I'm eating grapes right now, and they were in the fridge for a while, so a ton of them are wrinkly and unappealing-looking...but there's enough of these grapes that I'm wondering if it's safe to eat them or not, because i feel like i ought to eat them...

I understand many V&V's can rely on morals alone, but for those of you who found the transition scary and/or difficult...

What was the first vegan or vegetarian food that really made you understand you could be a v*gan for the rest of your life without ever needing to turn back?

:)

Can anyone recommend a good vegetarian cookbook authored by a REAL chef working in a REAL reputable restaurant please?

Over the years I have learned the only cookbooks worthy of bookshelf space are those authored by real restaurant chef; others authored by so called tv or book chef are just down right laughable - anyone can put together a few ingredients into a collection of recipes called cookbook

So, I'm a vegetarian and I'm pretty skinny. I have been reading on here that a smart vegetarian should track their calories and vitamins so they do not turn into skeletons. So, that's something I'm starting to take note on. The other thing is that I am considering becoming vegan after reading a lot of facts from vegans on my other questions. But, every time I tell someone close to me that I want to become vegan, they say "You're already too skinny and if you become vegan, you're going to die". What do you guys think?

recently i emailed trident in an attempt to receive clarification on the glycerin and gum base that they have in their gum. in their reply, they said that "Our Trident Tropical Twist has no Animal By Product in it. The
gelatin, glycerin, and gum base are all either vegetable or synthetic."

can gelatin, glycerin, and gum base be synthetic or vegetable based? i'm more concerned with the gelatin, mainly because i've never seen it based any other way.

If so, which ones perish, and which ones are spared? If you had a roach or termite infestation, what would you do? I've read that true vegans do not consume honey due to the exploitation of bees, though the bees aren't even killed in the process. So what would you do in the case of a terrible outbreak of pestilence in your home? True vegans, please explain your answers so that I can understand..

I'm 16 and I'm planning on becoming a vegetarian. Not because I feel bad for the animals, but because I want to lose weight. Are there any nutritional things I should know before I go veg? (like what substitutes for meat to eat, etc.)

note - i don't like the taste of meat at all, so "veggie-meat" isn't my thing

does it bother anyone else that some "vegetarians" eat chicken or fish? i can MAYBE (but not really) understand why people can say that fish is not a meat, but seriously, what is the reasoning that someone who eats chicken can still call themselves a vegetarian? doesnt this bug anyone else!?
