You can buy vegan products almost every where ..your problem is you do not know which products they are .. For toothpaste use tom's of Maine but there is also Nature's gate .. shampoo use Nexxus , Alba , Paul Mitchell etc .. I like peelu gum ..check out PETA for a list http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cache:67jinCACbXkJ:www.peta.org/living/alt1.asp+peta+compassionate+shoppers+list&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us ....but you can find most in supermarkets and in drug stores once you know which brands .. the last one below is not a vegan site but has lots of vegan products and ship free over $49.00 ...it gets very easy over time ..

I don't know where you are based, but you might want to have a look at the Animal Free Shopper:
www.animalfreeshopper.com
This is the online version of the UK Vegan Society's printed book.
They claim 14000 entries, so I'm sure you'll find out that you can get everything you want, although whether or not it's available locally is another matter...
I don't think there are many vegans who haven't got frustrated at some point - "why did they put x in that?" being a frequent exasperated comment.
Things are getting easier in the UK; I'm not really qualified to comment much on elsewhere except to say every city I've been to has had lots to offer.

There are only 2 places I can suggest, 1 is a health food store or m aybe a grocery store that carries a LARGE variety of organic foods may be another answer. If you truly feel that this is the best diet for you, then DON'T give up. There are always things that you can try. I am not a vegan, but i know of several people that are, and they go to a gracery store and buy alot of organic stuff.

This link may help you out. Everything they've got is vegan.

I've ordered from them and their good people but don't feel obligated to order from them; look for the stuff locally.
For soap you can't go wrong with Dr.Bronner if you remember to dilute it! They also do the Sundog lotions that are vegan (and darn good!). Nature's Gate & Kiss my face are good vegan products for hair care (although I've been told that new owners at Nature's Gate are messing with the formulas). For toothpaste I just use baking soda (I'm old school south) but I 'cheat' and crush fresh herbs into it for flavor.

It's true. It's not easy. I made a comment about how being a vegan and even a vegetarian takes a lot of research and dedication and got lambasted with thumbs-downs!
Keep researching if you really believe in your lifestyle. Many health food stores [real health food stores, not GNC] have a section of "animal free" products that you use everyday. You might try there to start.

Whole Foods. Weird as it sounds, they carry a vegan version of practically anything. Just google the web page. Also, Trader Joe's. Both ship.

Go to Whole Foods Market, or one like it. I work for Jurlique (an organic skincare line). We sell plant based products with no chemicals, dyes, fragrances, or animal products. Check it out.

I think there are other things to worry, like possible wars in the Middle East, than a few "animal products" in some stuff you use. Believe me, the amount in it is so minimal that it may be 0.0001%. Isn't that a little ridiculous? By the way, when you walk, do you look down for ants to prevent stepping on them? HA!
