Vegetarian & Vegan - February 2007

[Selected]: All categories Food & Drink Vegetarian & Vegan

I have been vegetarian for many years, and went vegan for awhile, but really missed my milk and cheese. I found a local food co op dairy, that produces raw milk, butter and cheese products. I purchased a share of a cow (her name is Abigail) I visit her often, and know for a fact that she is well cared for and pampered. She is free range and has organic feed. I look at the lovely raw milk and dairy products that she provides as a gift from her. I really am enjoying having the dairy back in my diet. When she calves, her calf gets all the milk it needs, and I simply have to do without. I feel like I am honoring and respecting her. I would like to know vegans thoughts on this. In all other aspects, I stay committed to protecting animals from any harm, and do not use any products that harm or test on animals. I have severe food allergies to wheat, soy, eggs, and other things that vegetarians eat, like bread and tofu, so without milk, my diet would be EXTREMELY resticted

I've recently freaked out after reading a web site claiming that it causes cancer. I wasn't sure if they were referring to processed foods- which are loaded with a lot of junk, but can't imagine that they'd mean fresh soy or organic tofu. I thought these foods were the healthiest thing a person could eat. What's going on? I'm a vegetarian and therefore have been eating soy (veggie burgers) for a while. Now I don't know what to do. Does this bother anyone else& how are you handling this news? Thanks!

Hi! I haven't eaten any meat since the first of the year - I am very happy without it and won't be going back to eating meat - my body feels much healthier - but the problem is that I am now tired ALL the time, I am starting to get leg cramps, I am moody and I have been getting a lot of headaches....since I am no longer eating meat what foods or supplements should I make sure I am getting to get rid of these symptoms?

(I am 21, healthy, female and not pregnant)

Thanks!

I have been a vegeterian since I was 7 (but don't think I'm going to become a vegan. I don't like eggs but I like milk and cheese.) Anyways, I want to know if you like being a vegeterian/vegan. I was kind of forced to be one. What I mean is that my parents they were vegeterian for like about 40 years are something and when there is no meat in the house, your kind of forced to eat something else. For my early years I just had turkey and chicken but I didn't really like it. So I became I vegeterian. And I'm happy really happy. I can tell you that being a vegeterian is one of the best choices I've made in my life.(maybe the only one)lol

1- What do you think of veganism?
2- If you are a vegan, then why did you decide to become one?
3- What foods are you allowed to eat?

I've tried several recipes ... they always make the outside quite tasty but the inside is always completely uncooked and tasteless. Does anyone have a recipe that will cook the inside?

I am seriously interested in this for research purposes. Please, please, please do not reply by saying "I don't know," or, "Why should it matter?"
And please do not respond with ethical/political arguments, such as "How would you like to live in the third world?" or "Have you ever tried living in Africa?" etc.

Please be assured that I am asking as part of a wider exploration, including google searches, etc, and would really appreciate hearing from anyone who knew, particularly the African veggies themselves!

going vegetarian to see a doctor? Vegetarianism is NOT A DISEASE! Why don't non vegs need to see a doctor to learn why it is okay to eat a diet full of animal protein, artificial colors, preservatives, etc. Oh, thats right, the docs can prescribe DRUGS to counteract the bad diet, so why bother. So amusing the way closed minds work. Too funny...
