Being a new vegetarian can be lonely at first. I was vegetarian for 6 years and became vegan last year, and I still don't know a single vegetarian in real life (other than my boyfriend). I know what it's like to be in a long term relationship with a meat eater, too. Just remember you are doing the right thing, and most importantly be forgiving of yourself. Undoing a lifetime's worth of habits isn't easy. You have a lot to be proud of just for making the commitment in your own mind. Feel free to e-mail me if you have specific questions! Remember you are not alone in this!
I live in suburban/rural New England (not exactly the most vegetarian part of the country!) so as a veg*n I know what it's like to feel isolated. For me, one of the biggest 'breaths of fresh air' was discovering the forum site VeggieBoards.
It is a GREAT site for all kinds of vegetarians and vegans, ESPECIALLY new ones. They have a special forum JUST for new vegetarians, where many people ask questions about how to live with carnivorous families (how to answer their "concerned questions", etc.), how to learn about nutrition so you stay healthy (always take a veg multi with B 12 - you'll end up healthier and more knowledgeable about nutrition than most meat eaters if you learn what your body needs), and how to handle all kinds of social situations. And when you feel you've 'slipped up' you will find a lot of support! We have all the answers! VeggieBoards also has great forums for cooking and recipes, brand reviews, and pretty much everything else conceivable that pertains to being veg*n! Welcome to our wonderful world of compassionate possibilities!
Come join us! - http://www.veggieboards.com
P.S. If your husband thinks a person couldn't possibly get built without meat, tell him to check out this site! - http://www.veganbodybuilding.com/
Just take a look at that photo gallery!
Also, next time you are at Burger King, definitely get the BK Veggie Burger! It is delicious! All in all, good luck, we're here for you, and feel free to e-mail me anytime!

This may not be very good advice, but if you tell someone who will put you down if you slip up (leave out that you already did), than you have someone to prove wrong, and if you do you'll feel good about yourself. Just keep trying and you'll do fine. It isn't surprising you felt bad after eating meat, because if you set a goal you naturally want to meet it. Also, if you've been a vegetarian for longer than a month (maybe shorter), your body just might not be used to meat anymore. Sorry if this is bad advice, but I just have a tendency to prove everyone who thought I can't that I really can. LOL, I'm the little train that could.

You can do this! Here, I'll give you a little bit more inspiration to help you stop. Go to the url GoVeg.com and meet the animals. Since you like hamburgers, start with the cow. Look at the full-length video of Cruelty In An Iowa Slaughterhouse. Then watch the video of the chickens. This site has plenty to offer a newby like you. Don't worry, after a year you'll thank yourself. They even have appetizing recipes as well. But, this site is not for children though, so I suggest that you and your husband watch it when your son is not around.

You might try various online discussion boards like below or Live Journal, etc...

You should also consider a plan if you really want to become a vegetarian. Moving slowly should be easier than all of a sudden making a change. Cut out certain things first and slowly get to where you want to be. All the while you have to consider the alternatives to what you want to eat. BTW, you can order veggie burgers at Burger King, or many of them may understand if you want a "veggie whopper" which means the whopper but without the burger patty. The whopper was the one thing I used to test myself, after not eating it for a month or two I would eat it and it would be really gross (since they are very greasy and fatty).
As one other poster mentioned, you can find various veggie athletes (Bill Pearl and Andreas Cahling as examples (your husband probably knows these names)).

Also, see if you can find any nearby restuarants that serve veggie food (see link below), if you are lucky and there is a good one around you can see how good dishes taste.

Start over in the morning tomorrow.
Don't be too hard on yourself. Just try not to slip again. Eat before you go next time. I always do. I eat a salad with all the stuff on it at like 3:30, that way I'm not weak at "their" dinnertime.

I know exactly where you are coming from!!!! Most people back off when I tell them my philosophy:
If you can kill it, you can eat it. And I am a pansy.
Most people respect it and back off. Just take take it one day at a time. The best thing I heard was,
A diet is not what you don't eat, it is what you do eat.

No. all people who eats any form of meat (specific, even chicken and fish!) is an omnivore. i'm sorry some human beings listed right here are telling you diverse, yet vegetarianism is reducing ALL meat out.
