Can someone please explain to me what vegans usually eat and if they are as healthy as someone who does eat meat and eggs and things of that sort.

If you had to choose one word to sum up all your reasons for being a vegan or vegetarian, what would it be?

Since there is so much information out there that most people aren't aware of (or refuse to hear), I know we veg*ns have a tendency to be long-winded. I thought this would be an interesting exercise.

I am all for being nice to animals, but I have a question.

Although this will never happen, would you eat meat if animals lived in good conditions? If they were allowed to roam acres and acres, eat completely natural and organic foods, and they were never killed or slaughtered, they just lead normal lives. If cows weren't forced to produce milk and every animal was always inspected for health problems. No hormones, no steroids, all natural.

Would you still be against eating meat or would you eat it?

I hate it when people ask a serious question about being vegan or vegeatarian and other people come on and tell us to eat meat. We obviously love animals more then them. It also annoys me that many people say animals were put on the earth to eat. They weren't, they were put here to be our companions. There are even bible verses that say not to eat animals but I think they're in older versions so you have to search for them. And even if they were created to eat, do you honestly think God would want them to suffer like the many that die of infections and illnesses because of the filthy and cramped conditions in factory farms just so you can eat? I don't think God would want you to treat your fellow earthlings like that, it's horrible. If people insist on eating animals, they should at least do it humanely.

I am. I am a vegetarian and someday plan to be a vegan. Killing animals is wrong...especially for fur. You dont NEED fur to stay alive so why wear it? It's ugly and wayyy expensive. It's also sad to know how the animals are being killed...does anyone else feel the same way?

I know this is for food section but I need some advice. My sister in law is 13 and she claims to be a vegitarian. Though she eats meat on the sneak and her parents make her. The prob is she makes rude comments during meals about any meat on the plates and goes on and on about how we are all killers, all the while she sneaks to the kitchen to eat hot dogs and lunch meat. How do we get her to tone it down a bit? she gets really out of control a lot of the times. I want some advice from a vegitarian on how we should talk to her about this to get her to see what she is doing. Its ok to be a veggie and we dont care but she will practically starve herself somedays. And we want her to stop acting so mean to everyone when she gets into her rants. Also do you know any good recipes that the family can make for her? She hates most veggies and will only eat bread, rice or noodles. We would liek her to get more variety

I am trying to become a vegetarian and have given up all other meats for a while now. Chicken is the hardest and I have only been able to eat it sparingly but not stop completely.

Does anyone have any tips on how to quit?

I don't know if any of you have seen my previous question. So here:

"Okay, I've been reading around and have found a few things saying that meat stays into your intestines for a lot longer than other foods because it is so hard to digest. I have become a vegetarian now for a little over 2 months. About the end of Jan. I started having gas, an upset stomach, cramping and diarrhea. I was told since I was eating for things with fiber in them, and a healthier diet my body was just getting rid of the meat in my system, and cleansing my body. I'm starting to wonder about it now though. I sometimes don't even feel like I'm about to have a bowel movement, and I do anyways. The movements are not that normal either. They are liquid-like, and have a larger odor that usual.

I don't know what kinds of foods have a lot of fiber in them to begin with, but even so...is this normal? I mean it has been about two and a half weeks of this. It is not getting any better...I don't quite understand."

I'm not pregnant now. I was just wondering what it was like for you and what you ate on an average day. Are you happy you did it? If you didn't have a veggie pregnancy, would you have if you were pregnant now?

Is that my body's way of going through "withdrawal" from not eating meat. I'll eat sandwiches and cooked veggies, and maybe some cake or chips ( one or the other, not both), but I'll still feel famished later in the day.

For those of you who are vegetarians, how did you feel when you went through the process? Experience anything different?

I am 17, still live at home, rely on my mom to make most of my meals, and won't be going to college until the fall. My father is a diabetic and can't eat carbs as much as i can, and complains if there isn't meat at every meal. My mom doesn't think a vegetarian diet is healthy, and i am a mediocre cook at best. We have meat with dinner every night, and I have been eating around it or just avoiding it, but this won't last for long.
