jeremy it sounds like your making fun of the religion, thats not right. Theirs nothing wrong with respecting living things and believing they can be a reincarnated person. And in a way we are all one organism anyways.

My entomology professor, an ardent bug-lover, said that we should kill flies and roaches on sight, because they spread diseases that are extremely harmful (and there's PLENTY to go around, even if you kill as many as you can!)

I take spiders outside. Also ants (which I think are cute.) If I see a fly or roach, it's going down! Also centipedes, because they can sting (and I don't want Kitty eating one and getting sick.) There's a big difference between not killing a food animal (which you could live without) and an insect that could quite easily give you some disease that would kill you.

It's all about protection. Of course, if you died from a roach or fly disease, you WOULD be saving a lot of animals since you wouldn't be eating, well, anything at all...no. Kill dirty bugs.

Save clean bugs.

I personally kill some bugs, though I try not to usually, mosquito's drive me nuts (and I feel I'm protecting myself from any diseases they spread.) However many bugs do not have a brain or a developed nervous system to feel pain like most animals do. As well bugs are in a larger population then any other species including humans (there are hundreds of bugs for every 1 human).
These are not the BEST reasons but they are some reasons. No one is perfect, It is impossible to not hurt something, every single choice you make has an effect.
EX: The shoes you need to keep your feet from getting frost bitten were created in a factory whose pollution hurt an animals habitat.
Saving one life however is better then saving none.
I think it is more about TRYING to be good and make more positive choices. If someone TRIES not to hurt a bug/animal/each other then they are making a positive conscious choice and a difference in the world, even if its a small one.

Vegetarians are ppl who don't eat meat. We consider meat being cows, chickens, pigs, rabbits, and even horses (I'm sure there are more). Normal people such as a meat eater or even a vegetarian don't usually include insects or bugs in their diet. Being a vegetarian most of us don't eat meat meat because we don't like the thought of killing animals for food when we can find the supplements we need in a different source or that it is just disgusting eating meat. There are to kingdoms, the plant and the animal kingdom. Sure bugs and animal animals are in the same kingdom they are totally different.
So I guess there shouldn't be a hypocritical thought/question er what ever about veggie ppl killing a bug.

hope that helps

I am a vegetarian as well as a Hindu and I really don't think it's hypocritical. Jeremy's remarks have not offended me or my religion in what so ever way. He may say that every blade may be my ancestor. But I believe that everything contains god. It may not be my great aunt but it has feelings that it doesn't express when you step on it. But its not like I walk on my tippy toes all day trying to avoid squashing bug. Yes of course I kill bugs on accident but definelty don't try to do it on purpose. So I don't think its hypocrtical.

there is no "allowed" and also you do not get "banned from the club." the individuals putting forward to "kill yet no longer eat", make no experience. So, a vegetarian can pass purchase meat for themselves, as long as they do no longer eat it? No, with the aid of the undeniable fact that destroys the objective. the beef production unit does no longer recognize no matter if you eat it, they only recognize it replaced into taken off the shelf, so that you're helping it. in case you kill the animal, [and also you a veg*n for the animals] you're going against what you're for, till that's the case the position the malicious program replaced into poisonous or a mosquito replaced into biting you and may want to carry ailment, etc. Then it really is optimal to kill it on your safe practices. [Plus, in case you died, you may want to no longer proceed helping more desirable animals. ;D] If a shark replaced into attempting to eat you, and also you had a fashion to stay away from it, you've to do it to live to inform the tale. So, be sensible, and save your self secure. If a malicious program or rodent is only innocently scurrying/flying round, then the proper theory might want to be to catch it in a fashion that did not harm you or the animal, and loose it outdoors. even as i replaced into little or no, i did not like roaches, yet I easily have grown to understand, they're only like the different insect. Or animal. And so I now seize them in cups and loose them outdoors to boot. i imagine the important reason human beings are petrified of them is ; human beings worry what they do no longer recognize, or can not anticipate. in case you follow that theory to this challenge..it really is smart. The animal is so small, speedy, ingredient legs for an insect, likely can fly, a mouse continues to be small and has a wierd, unsightly feeling tail, etc. So, we do not recognize the way it is going to act. We received't recognize that about different animals both, yet we may be able to narrate to them more desirable sensible/discover them stunning/etc.

Vegetarians are hypocritical by nature. If you don't eat meat because of the cruelty involved, then why do you drink milk, eat eggs, buy things tested on animals.. etc.

There's nothing cruel about meat that isn't applicable to milk. They're all sent to the same slaughterhouse.

It depends why you do it. If you're a vegan because you don't like the abuse of living, non-plant, animals and insects then yes, it's hypocritical. If you're doing it for health reasons and don't care for animal rights then no, I wouldn't say it's hypocritical.

I am a vegatarian and I own the most amazing leather coat! :) As others mentioned some don't eat meat for health reasons. Me, I am allergic to meat and therefore do not consume it. I am all for killing animals and bugs...

Nope, not at all. I just see them as bugs. Your going to step on them anyway, killing them. So thats like saying Im a vegatarian and I have to watch my step, so I dont squash bugs, or Im a hypocrit.

Oh and if you still consider us hypocritical, not all vegatarians are tree huggers. Im not either. I dont eat meat because I think its totally cruel and am a "tree hugger" or because its a trend. I just dont like meat, aits gross, it looks nasty and ew. Just thinking about it makes me sick. I dont know, I guess thats just how I am.

Maybe you should do a search on "Jainism"! That might give you some insight to the question. As far as them being hypocrites? Are they eating them? That could/would qualify them as hypocrites!
