I don't eat fish, and I can't tell you if I would or woudn't.
I think it depends on a few factors. a- how real you think this article is, they always come up with discovery's, and they are not always 100% on the mark.

Plus, I personally believe, if you want your kid to be smart- you need to just let him/her explore, and see for himself, and learn.
It might make him healthier, phyically develope better in his early stages. but I think that's all...

so I am guessing I would n't start eating fish...

plus I don't think I will be able to actually physically do it after ten years... not without gagging..,.

You mean to tell me that if I were to give up being a veggie and started eating fish I could get pregnant and have a kid? As a male I guess I made the right decision!

Seriously, the researcher in question is Dr. Joseph Hibbeln, a 'shrink' and not someone with a background in food health! Most of his professional career has been devoted to substance abuse. The particular study in question has not been peer reviewed but doing a quick search of Dr. Joseph Hibbeln I do see that he has published several other papers advocating eating sea animals that were funded by fishing industry concerns and the 'independent' reviewers of those papers were scientists that also have ties to this industry. Please pay attention to the following quotes from the article you cite:

"But since the study was based on self-reporting methods, the results cannot be considered entirely definitive."
"Large saltwater fish are of particular concern. Health Canada recommends that pregnant women, women of child-bearing age, and small children not consumer more than one meal per month of swordfish, shark and fresh tuna."
"Because seafood contains both nutrients and toxins, it remains a dilemma for regulatory authorities what kinds of recommendations should exist for pregnant women."

Does that help?

Studies also show that kids (and adults) who eat fish have severe brain problems because unlike other animals the chemicals dumped in the water build up in their system and do not dispel.

http://www.pbs.org/now/science/mercuryinfish.html

an artice in the Wall Street Journal reported on the FDA’s failure to provide adequate warning about pollutant levels in fish. The article described a 10-year-old boy who suffered severe mercury poisoning because his parents believed that eating tuna fish was healthy. In attempting to identify the cause of the boy’s newly acquired learning difficulties, a neurologist ordered tests that showed the boy’s blood levels of mercury were nearly double what the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) deems safe.

A study can be shown to prove anything depending on who was studied, the proccess in which the study was conducted, and how you interpet the results. The attributes in fish that makes a person "brain smart" can be found in many varrious other sources then just fish, I wouldn't kill an animal or risk my childs health by feeding him fish to supposedly make him smarter.

Oily fish are considered "brain food" because of the Omega-3 fatty acids in their tissue. These fatty acids support human neurological health, among other benefits.

Luckily, flaxseed oil is also a good souce of Omega-3s, and is available in capsules. This is a safer option for mothers who want to "have a smart kid" but don't want to potentially poison the baby with mercury (which causes brain damage), and those who are vegetarian/vegan. If you buy a good quality brand (I recommend NOW or Deva) and follow the dosage directions, it will be very beneficial.

Oily fish may be more potent in small doses, but those of us who do not eat any flesh will be happy to take a few extra capsules to make up for the difference. I take flaxseed every day and would continue to do so during pregnancy.

No. If you want to have a smart kid, be smart yourself. Go to some college classes and take one in animal cruelty while you're at it. Then, you will be much more intelligent and so will your kid. Do you honestly think that fish have bigger brains than us? And look- the article is from CTV, a media company from a nation whose economy relies deeply upon fishing. And remember- Einstein, Pythagoras and Gandhi were all vegetarians.

Its not the fish. Its the omega-3s in the fish. You can get them lots of other places that don't involve killing a fish. So, no. I would not eat a fish to have a smarter kid. I would eat flax seed.

No. Essential fatty acids like Omega 3 (which is what fish are publicized for) can be obtained in abundance from other far safer non-animal sources such as flax and walnuts.

Hmm..that's odd. I know alot of people that eat fish with kids who struggle to get good grades.

My kids on the other hand are both on the honor roll...without fish.

I'd eat fish to be smart enough not to have a kid. There are too many that need homes already.

Yeah....see, right now I'm 3 months pregnant and the very thought of fish makes me run to the bathroom. Would I rather eat something that MAY may make my kid smarter or would I rather just take a DHA supplement that I would throw up?
