Is it true you're supposed to soak it 1st? How long? & then when I cook it, how long should it cook & when do I start putting the meat in? This is my 1st time preparing this myself. I want fresh blackeyed peas, instead of canned. I've made fresh beans before-like white beans, black beans, & red beans, but they never turn out right, & no matter how long I cook them, even if it's 3 hrs., they're still hard. What am I doing wrong? Is there any other advice you'd like to add?

It seems like most of us that enjoy this combination are from the Midwest. I'm just taking a pole to see where people are from that like this combination.

Heres the recipe. Already got the melted butter and sugar together in the bowl, right before I added the peanutbutter I saw the expiration date. SO, what can I do with this recipe now? I don't have any chocolates or candies or anything to add to this now off hand. Is there a way to salvage it (refrigerate) and add stuff tomorrow?

At a party the other night someone bought some stuffed mushrooms that were delicious....they were stuffed with either Owens or Jimmy Dean sausage,and some sort of cheese-maybe cream cheese....
They went into a 350 oven for about 25 minutes or so.

Any ideas?

What can be cooked with rice so that they will be properly cooked when the rice cooker finishes boiling the rice? I'm thinking of adding dried mushrooms though I'm not sure how they will taste.

Thought I was reading package directions carefully, but I guess not. Box said to;

blend ingredients at low speed for 30 seconds
beat at medium speed for 4 minutes

I hand mixed it for 30 seconds, then got out electric mixer, put it around medium, and let it go, but around 3 minutes it was really getting thick, so I stopped then. It was thick like divinity before it sets up. I've never spooned cake mix into pan, always poured it before.

Guess I'm not sure what 'beat' means here.

I put them in oven anyway (made two cakes), are they going to turn out tough? Or what? What should I have done?

Well now, wait a minute. Just was re-reading box, and it does say "BEAT at medium speed for 4 minutes" so maybe I did it right, but it was so very thick, like I said I couldn't pour it into pan, had to spoon it in in big clumps.

Whadayathink?

Hello,

I am a twenty one year old male and having the most difficult time of learning to cook edible meals. Haha. :O). My problem this time around is getting lentils to cook properly. I can never seem to get them done. At a market quite far from my home I was happy to find some Urad Dal. These are split and say, "chilka" which I believe means with skin. They are still black on the outside. I tried to make Dal Makhani, which is a dish I like a lot, with these. I soaked these split dal over night. Then I boiled them on high, for 3.5 hours on the stove (in a normal pot) with turmeric, ginger and fennel seed. I did not add salt as I've read that this can cause some beans to toughen. The problem is that my dal remain "grainy"... they don't soften up. I have also had the same problem with split green peas in a attempt to make a green pea soup in a crockpot. I don't have a pressure cooker. Would that help? I have normal pots and pans and a slow cooker (small crockpot). Thanks. :).
