Iam a non meat eater and have been volunteered to bake a ham for our family dinner. It will be at my home and I can't remember what my mother used to serve with ham. Need suggestions, please. Others are bringing appetizers an deserts.

We like to have either au gratin or scalloped potatoes with ham. Or sometimes I'll make yams or sweet potatoes - if I'm not in the mood for a cheesy white potato! And a green vegetable - beans or broccoli is always nice. And then applesauce or Waldorf salad - apples just seem to go with ham or pork!

I hope you enjoy your family dinner. Happy New Year!

What Goes With Baked Ham

I am going to make a ham dinner as well. I will be serving mashed potatoes (yukon gold) and mashed sweet potatoes, black eyed peas, green beans, apple sauce with nutmeg and/or cinnamon and a salad.

This is the recipe I use for the sweet potatoes, it is very very good! You have to make it exactly as told or it doesn't taste right. I found the peppers at my super walmart.

Episode: Potato, My Sweet
2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 whole canned chipotle pepper in adobo sauce, chopped
1 teaspoon adobo sauce from can of peppers
1/2 teaspoon salt

Put cubed potatoes into steamer basket and place steamer into a large pot of simmering water that is no closer than 2 inches from the bottom of basket. Allow to steam for 20 minutes or until the potatoes are fork tender. Add butter to potatoes and mash with potato masher. Add peppers, sauce, and salt and continue mashing to combine. Serve immediately.
