I live in london, a multicultural city,
so why oh why do I have to make an extra trip to an afro-caribbean grocer if I want to buy plantain?

so very annoying!

(mind you its probably heaps cheaper than a supermarket would charge!)

writing project and nobody's health is in danger. But I want reasonable, realistic details.

What kind of bacteria are involved in the making of kimchee? Would a person be likely to have gas pains, bloating...? is food poisoning a possibility...?

Serious answers only, please! Thank you.

My friends all eat really nice looking sandwiches made by their mums at lunch. My peanut butter sandwiches frantically made by myself before going to school, look pathetic in comparison. What can i put in mine that doesn't take too long?

I'm eating one so this question came to mind...
Mine would have to be a pastrami sandwich on white bread with American cheese and Miracle Whip. Then a Dill pickle and Green Tea on the side.

Yummy!

People come to Y/A and ask for a recipe and get a web site, often without any comment at all. A lot of people are kind enough at least to cut and paste a recipe -- albeit from the web. When I ask, I'm usually looking for a recipe someone's tried or maybe a family recipe or something. Now, answering from the web is fine but it makes me think: did anyone's mother give them a recipe? Does anyone actually cook the recipes they're giving? I like people who make comments about the food, give a home recipe, offer options because they've modified the dish to their tastes, and so forth. When I give one I try to do that.

So, does anyone here pull out a recipe from a file box, or look up the recipe they use in their own cookbooks? Is this all web work? 'Cause I can do the web work myself!!!

Just tried my first Shiraz from California ($15 Canadian) and was pleasantly surprised. I have tried many from Australia and found them a bit to bold tasting for my vegetarian meals.
