Our multinational society, our huge range of fast food outlets and restaurants, and our long history of trade in herbs and spices...Egg and Chips is still the best meal in the world?...oh ok...maybe with a slice or two of Wiltshire ham???

I have a good German knife set, but it is getting dull and when I try to use the sharpening stick, I seldom make them sharper, and when I do, they don't stay sharp. Do I need to have them done by a professional, or is there a better way?

I couldn't get an exact date on it. I have a vague source that tells me it's before 2003, but I can't be sure. Does anyone remember? Also, in what way has Starbucks' introduction of soymilk on their menu helped the soy industry??

Just went out on yet another date last night with yet another non-veg. The topic of "why are you veg" came up, and I can't help but suspect my responses were less than ideal for her. Oh well, I do it to myself. Anyway...veggiedate turns up one hetero female in the area, and her religion is a deal-breaker.

My college doesn't have a veg or AR club. Maybe I should start one? Maybe I should get some veg t-shirts to advertise myself? I've been told that I should cut my hair to make myself more appealing... http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc188/safetyhats/selfpic.jpg I'm hitting a spot of self-loathing atm, finding myself unattractive and weaker than I thought I was. For a long time I've been a strong enough individual to be alone, but I miss intimacy and I want to find someone with similar ideals. :(

To those of you who met an already-veg partner, how/where did you do it? Remember, we make up only 4% of the population.

My boyfriend's birthday is coming up and I thought it would be best, if not only nice, if I cooked dinner for that night. Something candle lit and cute s**t like that. LOL. He pretty much would die for anything delicious, loves pasta and cheesecake. I might as well just stick to that, but I would like specific ideas. Do you know how many kinds of pasta there are out there? Please be specific. You may provide anything else that is just mind blowing to taste. It does not have to be pasta. Thanks.
P.S. Cake ideas would be nice too.LOL

My wife and I are going to a fancy resturant for our one year anniversary, but we have a small problem. We both don't care for wine (too dry for us), and want to order champagne, but we also don't care for the expensive kinde (to wine-y).
What brand (s) are common at wedding receptions, as that's the kind we like and perfer to order? The place we are going to doesn't do menu's, so as a second question, how do we ask what we want without sounding like an idiot?
Any help would be great :)

I ask this, because I'm a lacto-ovo-vegetarian who would like to go vegan. Unfortunately, though, I'm having a really hard time giving up my Coke! I know that sugar is sometimes filtered through charred animal bones, but often when I read the lists of ingredients for various sodas, I notice that they're sweetened with corn syrup instead of sugar. Of course, corn syrup is bad for you, but as far as I know, it's still vegan. Does anyone here have any info?

I was just wondering, because as a vegetarian who would like to eventually go vegan, I've noticed that even though most parts of the US are now becoming friendlier to lacto-ovo-vegetarians, it's still pretty common to find places with stores and restaurants that offer few (if any) good options to vegans. I would like to know where the vegans here live and how challenging they find their surroundings to be.

I'm having pan fried salmon, with devilled eggs.

I'd prefer it not to be too "carby" as we're on atkins.
