baking soda, vinegar, water.

For "over-the-counter" cleaners, I sometimes buy "Simple Green" for tough jobs.

Seventh Generation and Mrs. Meyers make cruelty-free and environmentally friendly cleaners. You can also find more brands at www.veganstore.com or www.veganessentials.com.

And of course, white vinegar and baking soda are said to do wonders!

Most modern synthetic cleaning products are based on age-old formulas using natural ingredients that were passed down through the generations because the chemistry was right. Going back to the original naturally-derived ingredients is a way to make cleaning products that work, don’t pollute, and save you money. Most are found in your kitchen cupboards. Mix and match with well-chosen and environmentally-friendly green cleaning products found in health food stores, and you can easily and simply transform your home into a nontoxic and healthy haven.
Nontoxic cleaning can give you a deep feeling of gratification in knowing that your family's health is protected, and that your home is a place for your bodies to rest and recuperate rather than promote harm.

SIMPLE SOLUTION: Making your own nontoxic cleaning kit will take you no time at all with these simple, straightforward directions, and with this kit you will be supplied with enough cleaning product for months of cleaning.

The best best non-toxic, environmentally-friendly household cleaners I have found (after trying MANY) are offered by Melaleuca. Their EcoSense cleaning products use naturally derived ingredients with no chlorine bleach, ammonia, or formaldehyde.

While I admire those who make their own cleaners, I absolutely detest the smell of vinegar, so I just buy mine.

I *really* love Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day products. They smell awesome and work great. The lemon verbena scent is my favorite, although the lavender is nice, too. I use the multi-purpose cleaner, the counter spray, the shower cleaner, the dish soap and the hand soap. They also make pet products, but I haven't tried them.

I also like Seventh Generation brand. I use their bathroom cleaner, all-purpose cleaner and laundry detergent.

They are usually $1-2 more expensive than their "regular cleaning product" counterparts -- just so you know. I included links to both companies' websites.

I like L.O.C (liquid organic cleaner). Not only is the product environmentally friendly, but it's super concentrated (one bottle of LOC is equivalent to about 8 bottles of Mr. Clean) so it produces less waste to go in the recycling.

The natural cleaners listed above by several users (lemon juice, vinegar, etc.) are my favorites because they are not only the things you listed, but also quite cheap and effective.

But if those don't work, or you want something store-bought, I've used Method, Ecover, and Seventh Generation and they're all really good.

White vinegar and water; we use it in place of most commercial cleaners in our home. You just dilute it to different strengths for different jobs.

I make my own, by mixing equal parts of water and hydrogen peroxide, with a squeeze of fresh lemon, a little baking soda, and some essential oil. It works great, and no toxic fumes.
