Recently, a friend and I had the same discussion about bananas. Ocassionally, we buy them greener, wait for them to ripen, and days later discover they have turned brown, and have hardened. We live in different regions, shop at different stores....What makes this happen? Does anyone know?

I was looking at my ginger ale bottle and it said Extra Dry, or somethign to that effect. What is dry about the ginger ale, and how does the 'dryness' make a difference?

I am a huge fan of banana daiquiri's. I hate to taste the alchool in my drinks. The Keg serves a Chococlate Monkey Daiquiri that I adore, butcan't seem to replicate at home. I know that the Chocoloate Monkey Daiquiri is creamy, and has chocolate syrup in it, but no matter what combo of banan liquor, triple sec and bacardi rum I put together all I can taste is th ebitterness of the alcohol. What am I missing? How do you make a REALLY good Banana Daiquiri?

I use to love going to Little Ethiopia when I lived in LA. I use to get the Veggie Platter with that bread you pick it up with. There were like 4 different types of pureed veggies, one was greens, another was yellow and the rest were like a brownish orange mixture. The spices were amazing, I just wouldnt know where to start to make that at home with the bread they use, any experts on this type of food?

Is it true that you should rinse rice before cooking it? I heard that the starch is what makes the rice like mush and should be pre-washed. Also, why should or shouldn't you stir the rice while cooking?

As we know leather comes from skin of dead animals. When person don't eat meat of dead animal why one should use the product like wallet, shoes, belt which is made by skin of the dead animals? that should be such a hippocrate for this person.
So do agree that use of leather goods is OK for vegetarian or a vegetarian person should avoid of use of leather.
If so, why?

I just bought a bag of unshelled raw brazil nuts and I'm having a terrible time getting the things shelled. It seems like the nuts are trying their very hardest to stay attached to the shell. I end up cracking them and flipping half the shell across my kitchen and then spend 10 minutes gouging the nut out. Somehow those people at Planter's manage to sell whole Brazil nuts, so I know it must be possible.

Are there any tricks to unshelling Brazil nuts or am I really that uncoordinated?
