I seldom eat corn tortillas, but when I do I tend to get the hiccups the minute after I swallow the tortillas with the foodl. What causes the hiccups? What can I do to prevent this from happening?

I think you're just swallowing a lot of air. Maybe you eat corn tortillas faster than you eat other food? Try slowing down, avoid swallowing air and you should be safe from the hiccups.

I had hiccups practically every day of my life until I stopped eating corn. It seems I am allergic. That would be my guess for you as well.

same thing that causes all hiccups... air in your stomach. you are probably swallowing air when you are scarfing down those chips (not that I blame you - chips = yummy)
