I need to buy a head of lettuce tonight for a salad Friday. Every time I bring one home the next day or so it is wilted. How do grocery stores keep them fresh?

Is there any beer on the market that's maybe not as bad for you as the others?

After 5 years of not bothering too much i'm on a push to get fit again and eat all the right things including the 5 fruit/veg a day.

I've given up all the stuff i love such as take-aways, chocolate, etc, doing the daily exercise as well but the beer is something i've realised is the sticking point.

I'n not a massive drinker, just a couple of times a week but i'm not willing to give it up, i don't smoke and with everything else going healthy then i'm happy having a few beers.

I usually drink say 3 draught larger such as Carling then move onto bottled beers like Corona or Bud, i'm not a fan of spirits, brown beers are ok.

The suggestions to stop completely is not an option i'm willing to take, cutting back is an obvious one but not really answer for me.

Any suggestions?

I purchased a smoker but can't find any decent recipes. Is a smoker the best way to make jerky? If not, what is?

My fridge/freezer broke down for about a day and inexplicably started working again. During this time, some frozen chicken may or may not have defrosted - it was certainly quite cold when the fridge was knackered. Should I leave it to defrost again and risk dying of food poisoning or stop being a wuss?

Nandos chicken, chilli sauce and pickled jalapenos - love em all, but think I may be intolerant! I get the hiccups without fail and if it is particularly spicy I get a bit shaky... I do love chillis though!

I frequent this bakery in this department store and they sell this product which I would like to purchase but everytime I do come around, the 'best before' date would always be 'that day'. Does that mean that it's expired already, or that it should be consumed before the day's actually over?
