I keep until bad, just smell to check. Most foods actually last past the expiry. Which is good actually. I not remember the episode on History channel, but, it was about packaging and they came to the part when cans were made, the man actually made them by hand. Any way they found this can of food used on some expedition back in the late 1800's and opened the can like 50-70 years later and they say the food was given to a cat, which ate the food with no side effects or sickness. My woman has a cat and has had them all her life, cats will not eat bad food, dogs will.

Yes I throw the food if the expiry date has arrived.
& u must do the same thing too as an expired food may even cause some diseases like food poisioning, etc.
Moreover, the manufacturers knows it better when the food is going to spoil & thats how they decide the expiry date. We may really not know when the food has spoiled. They may externally appear good but may have spoiled from within. So it is better to go by the date given as the expiry date & throw the food away.
If it has been too big an answer
sorry for the long lecture

The expiration date on the MAJORITY of food packaging is a sell-by date. Fresh meats and breads need to be either used or frozen by the date on the package (That is why most grocery stores discount fresh meats the day before or day of the expiration date). Non-Perishables, like canned goods, usually have a date that is anywhere from 1-2 years from the date of packaging, and usually shouldn't be trusted after that date.

Most food is still good beyond the expiration date, 3 to 4 days. Boxed goods a little bit longer.

Don't use them. Tampons are sanitary - not sterile - so that means that they do contain bacteria and after some time that bacteria will start to grow to unsafe levels, also when laying about even when wrapped up bacteria and mold can get into the tampons. It's the same as why there are expiry dates on toiletries, it's not so much about the product degrading it's about bacteria. The more foreign bacteria is in the tampon before you insert it the higher the risks of infection and TSS - this is also why you wash your hands before inserting a tampon to prevent bacteria being introduced into your vagina. Most tampons aren't made of cotton they are made from rayon (synthetic material made from paper pulp), they are also chemically treated, this doesn't effect expiration date but it's important you understand this because tampons made form rayon and chemically treated carry an increased risk compared to cotton tampons. Both rayon and cotton will eventually degrade, that means increased fibre loss - tampons always lose fibres within your vagina, but higher levels of fibre loss means increased risk of TSS as the fibres left behind in your vagina carry on allowing for bacterial growth even when the tampon has been removed.

First you have to determine if whether it's a sell by or use by date. I'm pretty picky about freshness and food safety so it's always it's gone at expiration. Especially meat and dairy products. I would say something like chips or crackers wouldn't be a big deal but who wants to eat stale crackers and chips. Bread is another thing I'm anal about-THAT has to be eaten before the SELL by date or it becomes croutons or bird food :)

It really depends on what it is. Canned goods are different than boxed goods, there are a few things that don't last too long, like refrigerated food. Yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese, anything like that, don't last very long past the expiration date. But unless it's molded or tastes bad to my opinion, it goes!

I try to use it before the expiration date but if not I try and use it quickly after the date has passed.
