Seeking guardianship of my niece and visitation rights until then. Father is out of the country, children taken from mother's custody. She has been a foster home for over a year, foster parents want to adopt her, social workers are saying it is too late for family to intervene.

I'm not mad at him, and his little girl with the other woman is an adorable seven-year old. I even like her mother. My question is, should I try to be a mother figure to my husband's daughter, or should I stay away from that and just be a friend to her? Help me please. Thank you.

Well,...mine did. And everybody else called me....except her.
I feel she did this on purpose. Cause she knew it was. She bought
my sister a sweater, & a 20. We are the same age for 2 weeks.
So, this just confirms my suspicions.........Why do you think she
did that ?...

My nephew is 16 years of age and lives with me. His mother refuses to let him move back in his own house. Everytime he goes home to stay the night, he and my brother-in law get into a big fight and my nephew ends up back over here. What do I do to stop this?

I'm 13 and really look up to a 23 yo girl. I admire her principles, her sweet heart, strength. I like to go out with her, to talk to her about everything. She's young but teaches me a lot about what being a womam is. She graduated in Biology, has a job and still studies.
But unfortunately she doesn't get along with her parents. She doesn't live with them and wrote them off her life. I don't know the details, but she says they were to harsh on her when she was a teen, they made her so resentful that she didnt get over and never will. I know their parents keep trying to get her again, her mom asked her to talk to them to fix their relation now that she's an adult, but she refuses. Some people say I shouldn't hang out w/ her cause she's not an example of what a good daughter should be, but why not? She's a great girl, a great older friend.! I believe it was her parents fault, no one understands how a girl like that can be so resentful of her parents. At her job everybody likes her

He has no respect for his father or I either one. He is more that way with me. When I talk to him on the phone, he yells and screams if he can't have his own way or I don't agree with him on something. He can be right down the block from our house and he will never stop by to see us, he never ask about our health, if we are doing ok. We are not youngsters and it would be nice to know that he has a little love and concern for us. He expects us to bail him out of all his problems and I have finally had enough and refused this last time. Told him it was time to grow up, that we wouldn't be here forever to help him out.
I have decided that I am not having him in my home or my life until he grows up and can treat us with a little bit of respect. This man had everything growning up...maybe that was what made him this way.
He is married and has a child that he refuses to let us see. What did we do wrong? And do you think I am right in feeling the way I do?

My brother-in-law and his wife just delivered baby number 2. They haven't figured out how to take care of baby #1 yet. Social services is chasing them in three states, they live in a world of complete filth. The only times my nephews get a bath is when they come to my house. We even buy their diapers. I went there yesterday and there was garbage everywhere, the baby was in a dirty diaper and the older one had trashed the house (so they claim). It's been this way since baby #1 except my hubby and I took care of him until they ran from Social Services. I want to call, but I know if I do, I won't see my nephews because they will run again. I've tried to teach proper parenting skills to both of them, even showed them how to bath and feed the children, but once I"m gone, nobody does it and the kids are neglected. I need some serious help in deciding what to do. I already have 5 of my own and can't afford 2 more, but my heart says I'll find a way and they'd be better off with us.

I've noticed that many parents simply can't forgive their kids. Many seem to be proud of the punishments they give to their children. A lot of times I've heard a parent say AH! I grounded him for a month, like gloating over the suffering such punishments cause. Such parents feel like a winner when they punish. I guess they dont worry about their kids best, but just want them to behave as parents like. They dont seem to worry about how their kids feel
When a kid is sidetracked, parents should help them top change, instead of degrading them. Everyone makes mistakes , parents should understand this truth. And so, should help their kids to become good kids again. But in such cases many simply humiliate thir kids, parents should always give them another chance. What will motivate a kid into a right track If he/she u knows his/her parents will never forgive you and will never trust them again? Parents make mistakes too. No wonder there are so many resentful kids

My sister in law is always trying to get attention from everyone, she makes her medical problems with her pregnancy and with her daughter worse than what they really are because she wants all the attention, to make things worse she is always competing with me and with my daughter over everything even though theres no need to because her daughter is favored by her mom and dad over my and my husbands children. She's always putting my daughter down and making comments to others about her daughter being "the good one." I dont try to compete with her but sometimes its hard not to when she is always degrading me and my kids. It hurts my feelings but I ignore her for the most part but its getting to be to much... the only time I really say anything is when shes putting my son and daughter down because of the effects it will have on their self esteem... how do I handle her stupidity while keeping my sanity in tact.
