Family - June 2006

My grandfather and I were very close when I was young. But it seems as soon as I hit 16, he couldn't stand anything I did. Now, at 18, he never has anything nice to say about/to me. I'm not a bad kid, but he makes me feel like I'm the worst person on the planet. He hates the way I dress, he hates my friends, he hates everything I do, and he makes it known in the most hurtful of ways. Is this a normal thing? Generation gap? What can I do to avoid conflict?

Between my husbands ex. who is only involved with her kids for the fun things, her family which causes problems in my house, my ex who was once a great dad to my child but has now seemed to drop of the face of the palnet, my exs family who one moment tells me to take him to court for child support and the next saying how hard life is for him, my husbands family who just leaves me annoyed and tired, my family who has only seemed to really care about me since I got married to the man of their dreams, and my husband who is a great dad when it comes to palying with the kids but wont touch anything that deals with fealings, or supporting me. I have no freinds to talk to because my husband has ran them all off and I'm left with crying kids waunderung when their mom/dad is going to come see them and a husband who tells them thats life. I know i should be abel to handle it, but I'm really failing between work school and family, I feel like I'm losing it, can any one help me here.

Here's the deal. I have a family member that will believe everyones rumors, but will never ask you the truth. On the slight chance that they do ask the truth, you never get an apology. They will call you a hundred times a day, so when you don't get a call at all, that's the only way you know they are mad. Usually it's for something completly off the wall or stupid.

They also want equality within the family. Instead of the same amount of gifts at Christmas, it has to be the same $$. I could care less how much a gift costs!! But, when it comes to academics and sports, they keep everything about their kid in the dark, and don't want your kids participating in the same thing. Your kid can't call their kids friend over to play, but their kid sure can call your kids friends....silliness!!!

I have NEVER seen a person so hateful and vindictive. And this is to their own blood. They say they can't stand people like that, well, they must not like themselves very much!

My parents keep fighting and putting me in the middle of it. My dad is also disabled and in a wheelchair. They're thinking of gettting a divorce and I would have to move. What am I supposed to do if my whole life is where I am now?

My husband's family has a history of obesity / heart disease / and even diabetes.. His 13-year old sister already weighs 225 and she is not even in high school! Today I took her shopping and no girls sizes fit her, yet she refuses to wear mens clothes.. Please help me to help her.. both with clothes shopping and with emotional support.. How can I help her to lose weight when she is totally unmovitaved

My mother and my sister have a hard time getting along. My mom tends to make things a little mellodramatic at times. My sister is stubborn and easily gets upset. My mom and sister have a tendency to point out each other's faults. They rarely can work together, and I'm stuck in the middle. How would you handle this?

I had them start coming to me, so that I could mediate. Hopefully this is work. Any further suggestions?

I live in a very dysfunctional family, my older sister lives with a man who likes to verbally degrade her in front of my 2 year old nephew, my dad left when i was 9 and now wants back into my life (im 17) and my mom won't stop making fun of me because im not skinny and she keeps claiming im gay because my best friend is gay, but im not. And while she loves to dump her problems on me im not allowed to even mention what im going through to her. I feel like im going out of my mind and i can't handle all of this bull anymore, any tips on how to deal?

The whole time growing up, seriously at least once per day, she would yell and say "I can't wait until you damn kids turn 18 and get the **** out of my house!" Now I'm out and states away. I have a son who is 20 and quit his job 8 months ago and refuses to get a job. The other son is 27 and his wife left him for another man and he wants to live with me to save money and fix up his car...I wanted them to work and hold their own so I was not broke all the time supporting all of us and my daughter who is 18 and works but spends all ther money on clothes...now the 20 year old is going to live with his dad in maryland and my other son is going to stay with a friend....so now my heart aches like it is broken and I feel my kids hate me. well my mom is sooo mean and unfair to me... i.e. i was driving home and i was goin down the steep driveway and she starts yellin at me..." you dont know what ur doin ... slow down .." and i was tellin her that i am doin fine and she told me to not question her and to shut my mouth.... well my dad is usually the nicer one and im a daddys girl and when mom does things like that he just stands there and he tells me later not to listen to her.... why doeswnt he stand up for me??? and what should i do about my mom???? (there has been WAY worse things that have happened besides that)
