Family & Relationships - 5 November 2006

I've only been married for 6 months. This past month has been full of fights with my husband and two days ago he decided that he wants to think about getting a divorce. He still calls me every day and today we even went to lunch. We aren't fighting but he still says he wants more time to think and we're supposed to talk about everything tonight when he gets off work around midnight. I still love him and he says he loves me and I'm a firm believer in trying everything I can until I'm ready to give up. To me six months just doesn't seem like we really gave it an honest try at all. I know I can't change his mind once he's made it up but what does everyone think of this? Is he really making up his mind or is he having a hard time just ending it? I asked him if he wants to do marriage counseling and he's not so big on that idea because he's the kind of person who thinks it doesn't work.Has anyone else ever been in this situation? If so, what ended up happening?

I have a wonderful beautiful stepdaughter whom I love very much and am very close to although more like her friend then a parent, she is into drinking and boys very heavily and plans to move out of her mothers home at 16, my husband is a rotten dad to her, he pretty much ignores her existence and we fight about it lots, her mother chases men around and drinks and buys her booze, how can I help this child become the wonderful woman I know she will be? I have fought with her about it but she just stops talking to me and I don't want that, my husband will never wake up about it, any suggestions?

There is this girl in my school and in my class and when we were doing a lab, I kinda of stared at her in the face for a good 5 seconds, not because I liked her I just did :). Well the other kid we were working with said something about ackword stairs and she laughed like she was embaressed. Girls like me as friends but Ive never been in a case were the person I liked new I liked her. Do you think both of my lab partners think i like her? Do you think this is good or bad? I've realized for a long time that she likes to have control over all her relationships, even to the point that she prefers that I don't like her boyfriend so that I won't hang out with both of them -- only her. She seems to like that her sister and brother's don't like him also, so that she can keep everyone separated when she spends time with them.

We spend tons of time talking about her relationship. I've been out of the dating world for over a year -- now that I'm back in it she's acting odd. She likes discussing the guys for a few days, but then stops asking or even saying much -- even when I directly ask for her opinion. Is this part of her controlling nature or something else?

Ok I'll try to sum this up without too many details. I've been with this guy for 3 1/2 years. He is an only child and with that being said he tends to be very selfish. When we fight he says really mean things, and hardly ever says he's sorry for what he's said. The most recent comment was during a heated argument and I asked him how he felt about me (I'd been feeling him pulling away). He said to me that he just wasn't sure if this was how he wanted to spend the rest of his life, with me that is. I go way out of my way to show him every day just how much I love him. I have talked to several of my close friends and they think I should dump him. Everything we do is on his terms. We talk when it's convenient for him, we go out when he wants to, we have sex only when he wants to, and etc...I love him and I want this to work, but my biggest fear is that we aren't even married and there are issues. A good friend said to me the other day, do you love him or do you love being with someone?

ive been with my girlfriend for about a year and a half. she just broke up with me again for like the 5th time. she all of a sudden out of nowhere says shes unhappy and doesnt want to be with me but always wants to be friends. when i tell her no she always comes back to me. i do everything for her, treat her very god, and take care of her better than anyone else could so why is she so unhappy. this happens like every 3 months. when she isnt unhappy we get along perfect, no arguing or fighting and we have a great time. she even talks about us moving back to her home town 2gethor. whats the problem here? i know for a fact shes not cheating and there arent any other guys, and i just wanna give up on her but its hard

After 6 mos she said she needed some time to "refind" herself on Friday, then texted me about 20 times each of the last couple of days. It was cool, I responded, but just being sorta friendly only, at least for a while. I finally told her I was going out tonight and said I figured it'd be too late for her but she was welcome to come, too. She declined politely. I want this girl back when she's ready but she's stringing both of us along (I'm not really mad but frustrated). So, when she texts me tomorrow and asks how my night was, I think I'll just say, "It was good." and leave it at that. Too cold or just right?

I just got done talking to my girl on the phone and I noticed that every time I tried to bring up a conversation she would give me a really short answer. Then she would say something and when I asked her what she said she said she was talking to her brother or something.
