if all that effort were harnessed constructively, we could make a real difference. so really, skeptics: why all the huffing and puffing?

I mean sure celebrities are emitting more carbon in a year than we do in 5. But who else can get the message out about global warming besides celebrities. Nobody wants to hear some nobody scientist spew out facts and figure about climate change. It's boring. We need celebrites to glitz it up so regular joes like us will care. So when you call a celebrity a hypocrite, remember that they are the only people who can get the message out there. And after the message is out, we might actually do something about global warming.

Hi,

I am a newbie on hybrid cars.
So, please bear with me.
I know you don’t want to buy a hybrid car to save gas money. I know it would take more than 10 years in some case to save the difference buying a hybrid vs. a gas car.

Okay, so I am willing to spend extra $8,500 to buy 2007 Honda Hybrid over 2007 Honda DX.

However …

My concern is how Honda makes their hybrid and is it really sustainable? I have heard that making a hybrid car, maintaining, and disposing of it is more environmentally damaging than a gas car?

Is there any websites or studies to show what is the difference in environmental impact of hybrid vs. gas car?

I like to see details including transportation of the materials, labors, logistic issues, and emission level to make one car.

Am I asking too much?

Why dont we just built a spaceships/rocket--specialize to send the world garbages to space. Then we explode it or just leave it floating like that. So we can eliminate a lot of world trash problem!
Especially the non-biodegradable plastic and styrofoam
what do u think? GREAT IDEA????

For those who are claiming it is not happening....what is the advantage of poisoning the earth. We can reduce carbon monoxide without causing economic hardships. We can reduce air and water pollution without throwing people out of work. In fact, the health related benefits we will gain such as reduced cancer, emphysema, asthma, allergies, etc. should more than make up for the cost of cleaning up the environment.

So even IF there is a chance that global warming is not occurring....isn't it better to cut down on pollution?

No one believes or disbelieves the Sun is 93Million miles from the Earth, or the Speed of Light is 186,000mps, or Pi =3.14 or how far Jupiter is from the Earth as these are all things that anyone with some knowledge can discover for them selfs. You don't have to be a specific type of scientist to know the speed of the Earths rotation.

However "global warming" is something that people believe in or disbelieve in, like a religion. And only climatologist who are a part of the "consensus" are qualified to give their thoughts on the subject. No one else is able to give their thoughts because they aren't "qualified"

If "global warming" was real, why not just show us proof, like predicting how hot it's going to be in 5 years?

I'm normally in the Religion and Spirituality section - the debate in there is usually quite fierce - but nothing compared to what I've seen in here!
I see the GW-Believers and the GW-Non-Believers going after each other with gusto!
Is this issue polarising people's attitudes?
Will we end up with GW Terrorists?

A review commissioned by the British government, compiled by Nicholas Stern, former chief economist at the World Bank, has estimated that the cost of unmitigated climate change could be as much as $7 trillion in the next 40 years. That's about 20% of all the money in the world.

The extremely scary piece of information is accompanied by a polite suggestion that we spend 1% of the world's money right now, in order to avoid that fate. "We can pay one percent more now," Stern explained, "We can grow and be green."

Isn't the mere prospect of a $7 trillion cost worth doing things like reducing our dependency on oil and becoming more energy efficient?

Are there actualy people who don't believe in global warming. I mean, I already believed in it before I saw "An Inconvenient Truth," but now I can't see why people wouldn't believe in global warming. Yes, I know that we are going through a "Natural Warming Period" but humans have boosted this alot.
Earth has increased by an average temperature of 1.8 degree's farenhieght but it is worse near the poles. and now no matter what the earth will increase an average of 2 degrees in the next 50 years.
"If you look at the ten hottest years ever measured, they've all ocured in the last 14 years, and the hottest of all was 2005," Said Al Gore in his movie "An Inconvenient Truth." And during August of 2005 Huricane Katrina caused 1,836 deaths and 81.2 dollars in damage. Earth has already sent us many warnings and eventualy she is gonna stab us when well least expect it, unless everyone starts acting right now.

Prove all of us non believers by telling us at the current rate of pollution, it will be xDegF six months from now, 1 year from now, 2 years, 5 years from now.

After your dead on forcast, you'll be able to look us non believer and say you "told us so".

It's that simple, why not take us up on this? Do you need a consensus to read the tea leaves for you?

Is it

a) A natural cycle made up by the little porkies as an example of their "subjective science"

b) the time the public restrooms in the park close?

c) the time Middle Schools let out?

d) What Al Gore called "the Reverse Dracula Effect"

Does it really matter?

The Boston sky looks clean until you go offshore and discover the city is blanketed in brown smog. In Los Angeles and Denver, there is a daily evaluation to determine how dangerous the air is for humans. Some of the great lakes are absolutely disgusting. There are beaches that have signs posted saying the water is hazardous.

So what if global warming is false? Who cares? The Earth is still grossly polluted. Call it whatever you want..."global warming", "environmental stupidity", "some guy named Doug has crabs", "rubbing pizza on your nipples is nice", whatever...

Why are many people so upset by the term "global warming"? Is it because they might have to finally pay attention and be accountable? What's the deal?

Any other science can be preformed by anyone and if the experiment is done correctly the results come out to what has been calculated. For example, any 4th grader can show Ohm’s law and the relationship of Voltage, Current, and Resistance, or Boyles Law showing the relationship of area, pressure, and temperature. Anyone can calculate the distance the sun is from the Earth, or how fast the Earth spins on the axis. These are all examples of objective science, and since they are objective, no one argues if they are real or not.

There is so much wasteful activity going on, for example, in Las Vegas, think of how much water and electricity they use and waste; film and television production waste; people who have disregard for the earth and those who share it simply because they feel they are entitled to do so. Doesn't that make you wonder why you have to make adjustments and changes while others continue to waste?

excerpt:
"Herpes Virus Killing Coral Reefs
NEW YORK—Corals get cold sores too. Only, for corals, a herpes virus infection isn’t just annoying. It can be lethal, and it and other diseases are possibly a big factor in the deaths of coral reefs that humans are causing throughout the world’s oceans, new research shows.

Scientists have known for years that humans are killing corals indirectly and directly through global warming, overfishing and pollution."

Ice once covered New York City in a mile thick layer of ice. It wasn't until man hunted the Mastodons to the brink of extinction that the ice caps started to recede and they are STILL RECEDING to this very day!

Should we work to restore the ice caps to their natural position, before man appeared on this continent, where New York is under mile thick ice along wit the rest of New England?

Or to what point do you think they should be brought back to? How far is good enough for the polar ice caps? Is your information based on objective facts, or subjective based on your emotions, and how much you care about the planet?

Fart accusations are tricky. You don't want to start blaming every one cause then you bring light upon yourself. When some one breaks wind or toots if you will, why do people always want to find the guilty party. I think they should build a machine you could hook up to a watch and it would sniff out the perpetrator, excuse the pun.
