No one believes or disbelieves the Sun is 93Million miles from the Earth, or the Speed of Light is 186,000mps, or Pi =3.14 or how far Jupiter is from the Earth as these are all things that anyone with some knowledge can discover for them selfs. You don't have to be a specific type of scientist to know the speed of the Earths rotation.

However "global warming" is something that people believe in or disbelieve in, like a religion. And only climatologist who are a part of the "consensus" are qualified to give their thoughts on the subject. No one else is able to give their thoughts because they aren't "qualified"

If "global warming" was real, why not just show us proof, like predicting how hot it's going to be in 5 years?

I do not disagree that the average global temperature has gone up the "alarming" amount of 0.5 deg C in the last 10 years.

I do disagree that MAN is the sole cause...

We have had the GLOBAL COOLING scare of the 1970's... And had reduced solar activity in the 1970's...

Now we have increased solar activity ... and global warming.

That looks like the SUN causes global climate change. (and is the ONLY consistent factor related to when the average temperature has gone up or down)

Global warming is science, but maybe the answers are not yet known as definitely as how far the sun is from the earth. If you are interested in the science you should read Science magazine or other reputable scientific journals. There is no real issue of belief among members of the scientific community regarding global warming. There are only a few skeptics who do not accept the scientific analysis behind this theory.

And you don't have to be part of the consensus on anything to do science. Anyone who has some understanding is more than welcome to submit some scientific data questioning the consensus on global warming. In fact Exxon Mobil and others have offered substantial sums to anyone who can do that. Unfortunately no one can.

You already asked almost an identical question. This one probably makes even less sense because of your examples.

When was the last time you paced off the distance from the Sun to the Earth? The only reason you might know how far it is would be because you read it in a book. That book got it from a scientist, who used one of a number of possible techniques to measure it. In other words, you're BELIEVING the scientist.

When was the last time you calculated the speed of light or pi or the distance to Jupiter? Again in every single case you're BELIEVING scientists (or mathematicians) who have calculated these things.

And again, it's the same thing with global warming. You can't measure the global temperature yourself, but scientists with sufficient education and equipment can. You can't build a global climate model with which to model past climate and predict future warming, but climatologists can.

You choose to believe that pi = 3.14 but you choose not to believe that humans are responsible for warming. Educated people have provided you with both pieces of information, but you simply don't want to believe the latter.

Climatologists have predicted future warming.

And James Hansen predicted the warming over the past 20 years:

It doesn't. Information about it has to be learned.

The reason it's true is that scientists can explain the temperature rise of the last hundred years with it.

Other theories can't come anywhere near explaining the temperature change numerically qauntitatively (numerically), which is why the vast majority of scientists accept mostly man made global warming as true.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_opinion_on_climate_change

"There's a better scientific consensus on this [climate change] than on any issue I know... Global warming is almost a no-brainer at this point. You really can't find intelligent, quantitative arguments to make it go away."

Dr. Jerry Mahlman, NOAA

The fact is that the burning of fossil fuel may cause serious harm to all living things over the next few centuries. This is what the science suggests. Note that I said "may"! Like all scientific propositions, this is not certain, but the data suggest it is likely.

You can believe it or not.

But if this scientific proposition is correct, then most people would say that we should prevent this possible catastrophe if we can. This can be done by transitioning to renewable resources and nuclear energy a few centuries before the oil runs out.

Obviously it doesn't have to be believed because many don't. But most do. Especially the experts who have studied the data. Most of the so-called scientists who claim that global warming is false are the ones hired by corporations that stand to lose if environmental regulations are stepped up. We cannot ignore things just because we are not 100% sure or that we cannot exactly predict. Just like the bridge that collapsed in Minneapolis. The structure was deficient - but no one could predict that it would fall at exactly 6:05 pm on August 1st. So....does that mean it should have been completely ignored? (By the way-I'm not pointing blame & saying the bridge should have been fixed). Just using it as an example.

Wha...? There's loads of evidence supporting the theory. Scientists are more than willing to share it with you. Just read the IPCC AR4 for crying out loud.

Where did you get this inane idea that global warming is something you "believe in or don't believe in"? Of course it is! So is the idea that one and one equals two! Whether or not you believe something has absolutely no effect on whether it is true.

It is a religion and they out trying to convert so you send money. They claim all the knowledge when it comes to knowing the future temps/condition? Then they smart enough to fix the problem without the help of us beligerants. Just build an ECO bomb that recycles bad air into good air. End of problem

There is NO DOUBT that global warming is happening. The only debate is whether or not it is man-made. The sea and volcanoes put out way more CO2 than humans can possibly do.

Why not fix the problem rather than wonder if it is a problem or not. The problem is too much CO2 in the atmosphere so why not remove the amount that is causing the problem? Its not that hard to do if good engineering is used.
