Does it really matter?

The Boston sky looks clean until you go offshore and discover the city is blanketed in brown smog. In Los Angeles and Denver, there is a daily evaluation to determine how dangerous the air is for humans. Some of the great lakes are absolutely disgusting. There are beaches that have signs posted saying the water is hazardous.

So what if global warming is false? Who cares? The Earth is still grossly polluted. Call it whatever you want..."global warming", "environmental stupidity", "some guy named Doug has crabs", "rubbing pizza on your nipples is nice", whatever...

Why are many people so upset by the term "global warming"? Is it because they might have to finally pay attention and be accountable? What's the deal?

I love this statement because it's so true. It doesn't matter what it is, what really matters is that we are polluting the earth. Everyone knows pollution is bad so why not change? So for everyone that does not believe in "global warming", that's fine. But is it so wrong to put forth a little effort and try to pollute the earth less. What harm is that going to cause. The real problem is that Americans are wasteful and we have become a throw away society. Everything has to be convenient or it's not worth using. It takes too much effort to think about the earth, so people just don't bother. People are lazy.

Unfortunately, in my opinion it's because our nation has become a polarized two-party system. Everybody feels they have to pick a side depending on whether they lean towards Democrat or Republican, and then they dig in their heels.

I would love if more sites dedicated themselves to researching this important topic in a rational, non-insulting way. I think one of the best ways to learn is to hear pro's and con's because then you get to the meat of the matter. It's too bad there are so few sources to learn about this that don't demonize Republicans. I'm a Republican, but I'm really concerned about this.

The sad thing is I can't go to many websites where I'm not instantly slanderized. I can be an adult and get over it, though. The really sad thing is that many other Republicans won't even listen to anything on this subject with an open mind. I'm moderate myself, and have even thought of changing to an independent party, but everyone knows they have no chance (at least in the primary election - sorry all you true-to-yourselves Independents!).

Also, most of us are busy and don't have time to research Global Warming ourselves. We rely on friends, news media, talk radio, websites, and talking heads to get the gist of an idea. I've spent hours and hours reading up on it, and it's a really complicated subject that requires alot of projections. Many people say if the weatherman can't predict the weather, why should we get in a tizzy over their ilk saying global warming will happen? The analogy seems good on the surface because people don't have the knowledge to argue with that. They don't know how truly complicated the topic is. There needs to be a totally neutral place this is discussed that doesn't boil down to personal attacks and party sides. I think it's good people are talking about it, though. Certainly NOT talking about it is not going to help learning!

No Global Warming is not an evil socialist plan invented by dirty hairy hippies.

With respect to pollution, coal burning power plants are some of the most polluting devices that we have on this earth. Unfortunately they generate over half of our electricity.

We must ban the use of coal for generating electric power.

We also must find a clean way to replace all of that electricity.

One of the problems with global warming is that it distracts from real environmental problems. Like the moronic Ontario cabinet minister who didn't want to install scrubbers on coal fired plants because that wouldn't fix the CO2 emmissions. That's the kind of rockhard stupid thinking that will prevent us from cleaning the air of real threats like SO2. Then again that type of pollution has been decreasing so global warming guarentees more employment for the environmental crowd.

I don't have a problem with the causes at all. I don't even have a problem with most of the people supporting the causes. The problem starts when one group or another stages a protest that destroys private property, causes injury or death, or creates a hazzard to public safety all in the name of free speech. Anyone living in the United States has a right to meet in groups, stage a protest, march down Main Street, lobby Congress, or stand on street corners with signs. These same people DO NOT have the right to trespass on private property to let animals out of cages, throw red paint on fur coats, spike trees on corporate owned land, or burn down buildings in the name of their cause. It is all about respect. If they cannot respect the property rights of others, they cannot exect to be treated as anything less than criminals. A hate group is a hate group, whatever the cause.

Well, if it's false let's hope you're right. In that case, we're all going to be safe and sound in our SUVs. I'm not sure what you know about global warming (besides what you saw on Gore's movie, which I refuse to watch because it's so damn depressing). What do YOU think when you hear the term "global warming"?

No it doesn't really matter when you put it that way. Apathy is the typical response of most Americans and besides whether its true or not we'll all be dead in 70 years.

Most people don't give aratsass about global warming.
They believe it is a natural phenomenon that will go away in 50000 years or so.
And if you want to throw your money away on it ---go ahead..
