Ok so global warming is happening. But most of it is a natural cycle and then humans are contributing to a small portion of it. So wouldnt it make sence to pollute the earth more to bring about an ice age so it wouldnt be so hot anymore.?

What is the worst that can happen to your community, country?
Can something be done now, other than hoping that people will stop burning forests, less vehicles, homes and factories eject harmful gases into the atmosphere, etc?

In 2004 the quarter mile wide asteroid Apophis had odds of 1/63,000 chance of hitting Earth in April 2029, now the odds are 1/45,000. So far NASA says it'll pass at just 22,300 miles from us where our comms satellites are (MUCH closer than our Moon) - but you can read plenty online saying it'll be even closer. However, it's generally agreed that if Apophis doesn't hit in 2029 it's SURE to hit Earth in 2036, because of its orbital path.

Even if this giant rock doesn't hit us in 2029 it's going to tear through the upper atmosphere, disrupt our protective geomagnetic field surrounding Earth & will possibly destroy satellites too - & unless we can divert its orbit before 2025 it WILL hit in 2036 with the estimated power of FIVE Krakatoas (NASA). So is Apophis the GREATEST potential threat to mankind in our current list of hysterias that includes global warming & terrorism?

When global warming occured in the twenties and thirties it had nothing to do with CO2. What is different about today? The only difference I see is that you are measuring CO2 on the worlds largest active volcanoe.

I understand early earth atmosphere had lot of CO2 and less oxygen. Later on the Stromatolites increased the concentration of oxygen. My question is basically this:

1. Had we reached an equilibrium prior to industrial revolution in terms of proportion of CO2 and other gases in atmosphere?
2. Due to current state of affairs is this equilibrium going to shift in either direction even if we stop producing more CO2?
3. What can be the effect of such a shift?

Thanks,
Sandeep

Now I don't mean the idealistic, everyone works together and shares everything kind of communism. I mean the actual, historical, massive government, government control, lack of freedoms communism.

Almost every actual environmentalist I have met, or read their writings, has advocated less federal govrnment and more local control and self reliance as a means to reduce our environmental impact. I say almost, because I might be forgetting one or two that didn't because they were so overshadowed by those that do. So where did this idea that all environmentalists are pro big government and want to take peoples individuality away come from?

It seems that the people who are most against the "green movement" because of their fear of government intervention (IE authoritarian government) might have more in common with the environmentalists than they realize.

...couldn't you avoid this problem by using a direct drip irrigation system in your home garden? The water remains underground, and never gets "on" the food parts of the plant. Would apsorbtion through the roots somehow contaminate the plant as a whole?

every concept and cause has its skeptics. politicians use the media and their underlings to 'spin' their message and make it more accessible to the public. sometimes the spin works too hard though, and the politician loses credibility.

should or could proponents of global warming use some version of persuasion, of psychology, of 'spin' to present facts and conclusions? it seems absurd that it should even be necessary, but with the unwarranted criticism and skepticism about climate change, it seems psychology could be at least as useful a tool as a thermometer...

what do you think? would credibility suffer, or would it be worth it to use specially trained experts to better 'promote' the inevitable conclusion?
