Sure. Blame "Global Warming" for the droughts. Blame "Global Warming" for the floods too.

While we're at it let's blame "Global Warming" for the hurricanes and tornadoes, and we can also blame "Global Warming" when there are fewer hurricanes and tornadoes.

If it gets warmer, or even if the weather turns very, very cold, we can cast blame on "Global Warming".

No matter what happens, yes, it's "Global Warming"!

It's not right to blame global warming but it is fair to say that global warming is having an effect.

There have always been droughts just as there have always been floods, famines, storms etc. Even if there was no global warming we would still expect to see such events occurring.

But what we can do is to look at where, when and how often droughts occurred in the past, we can compare this to what's happening now. Doing so shows a 30% increase in the extent of droughts. This is the role that global warming plays with respect to droughts - more of them, longer lasting, in more areas, but not the sole cause.

Explaining why this happens requires a lengthy answer. If you'd like to know the reasons then please email me or ask another question.

Yes and no. While increased global temperatures will cause increased desertification and water loss, the cause cannot entirely be blamed on the specter of global warming. The real culprit is the fact that we are using water sources such as fossil aquifers that are non renewable, we drain them at alarming rates, and we use the water in a way that is wasteful and unsustainable. As these underground water sources dry up, and surface water continues to be polluted (thank you British Petrol) the world will face increasingly dire water shortages.

If you want to know what I mean when I say wasteful uses of water, four words. "Lawns In The Desert".

Mr. Jello is right, everything can be blamed on global warming, you can even add earthquakes to the list.

"
Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis and landslides are some of the additional catastrophes that climate change and its rising sea levels and melting glaciers could bring, a geologist says. "
