I am doing a phonics activity for one of my classes and I am directing it towards a second grade classroom. Students will be working with prefixes, suffixes, root words, and compound words. I was wondering if anyone could list some of each that would be good for this age group to work with. Thanks!

I have to give a two-hour public talk soon, and I am writing out my lecture. Can anyone give me pointers on how many double-spaced pages per hour one typically reads aloud when giving a lecture? Thanks for the advice.

I really think that I would enjoy teaching. I always have doubts because of the pay and because of the paperwork and work at home involved. I have participated in a student teaching internship and job shadow and I loved it except for the fact of how the teachers complained about money and all of the paperwork. I know that teaching is a rewarding career, but it has a lot of sacrifices that I do not know if I am willing to make. Could I have some insight, opinions, views, thoughts, anything would be helpful. If I do not teach I am thinking about going into healthcare because I love helping people and I love working with children.

I have been a successful Language Arts Middle School teacher in an urban setting. Would like to work with older students in an urban setting. Have had experience (week-long college tours on a bus with 31 h.s. students traveling 1000s of miles) with high school students and enjoy their maturity level. Preparing to enter licensure program. Anyone else made the move from middle to secondary?

Teachers - What are your school (or district) guidelines for assigning homework? I'm interested in the length of time to complete 1st grade homework. And what state are you in? I have been told a teacher recommendation of 30 minutes for grades 1-3 in West Virginia with emphasis put on reading. Give me an example (please) of the spelling words your class is assigned as well.

Parents - How long does it take your first grader to complete his or her homework? What kind of homework are they routinely assigned? Can you list some of their spelling words?

FIRST GRADE ONLY PLEASE!

Thanks for your input!

If you are an Elementary or Middle School Teacher please answer my questions!

Could you please tell me the day in the life of your teaching career like what you do from morning until afternoon.

Could you also tell me a little bit about what students do not know about a Teacher's career like how many emails you get daily on average that is work related and what kind of things that you need to turn in to your boss that have a deadline.

This would really help me out because I am only a student and I would really like to know more about the Teaching career before I actually decide that is what I want to do. Thank You!!!!!

My professor isn't teaching us from the book. He makes up his lectures as he goes and none of it makes since. This class is a Human Anatomy class yet all he's taught is chemistry. Which happens to be his favorite subject. I've already taken Chemistry and really need a good anatomy teacher. He's not even teaching chemistry right and he skips all over the place. To top it all off, he's a chauvinistic pig! He compares his lectures to having sex with women. I few people have thought about complaining to the college but they would rather wait until their out of his class, their concerned that if they complain that he'll give them a bad grade or even make to class more miserable. The college doesn't have another Bio teacher to even replace him with. I'm really fusterated because I really want to understand Human Anatomy since I'm trying to get into the Nursing program. And this teacher sucks! Please help, what should I do?
