Primary & Secondary Education - December 2007

I have failed pre-calculus this semester! I have a 53 for this quarter and a 53 for this semester. But all the rest of my classes are A's except for AP English which I have an 87. The last time I knew my GPA was 3.765. I'm very active in 5 or more clubs, my church and I think I'm a good person. Should I be panicking because I failed?? Are people going to think less of me? I want to be successful. Sorry I'm ranting now. What should I do?

Not sure if I'm explaining this well enough. Where I live ... I'm not sure about other states ... there is a cutoff date of Sept.30 for a child to reach his/her 6th birthday before being allowed to advance to the 1st grade. My niece was exTREMEly advanced at 4 years old. When she was 5 we took her to the school, where they said that - since she wouldn't turn 6 until Nov.20th - she had to be tested before they would accept her into the 1st grade. We were not allowed in the testing room; after about 15 minutes they came out and said that she wasn't at 1st grade level. This child knew her ABCs, her numbers 1-100, how to spell and recognize probably over 30 words (I'd taught her myself) ... AND she could read a few books! (Matter of fact, at PreSchool graduation she recited 'The Owl And The Pussycat' ... the enTIRE book ... word for word)! She also knew addition, subtraction and a little multiplication. I haven't worked to my potential in my first two years of high school. The first semester of my junior year isn't going to be that great, since I was ill the first quarter, and I was forced to accept the F's. The second quarter won't be bad.

Now, if I get a 4.0 the second semester of my junior year, and the first semester of my senior year, what are my chances in getting into UMD?

I am not being lazy, but I just can't take gym anymore. Everyone is in their own cliques, so I have no friends there. Also, i am horrible at sports, and no one wants me on their team. Some people come out and say i suck, and i know everyone else is thinking the same thing. Please don't give me the garbage about finding a friend or sucking it up. I've sucked it up for 4 yrs, but today was the last straw. This may seem childish, but if you stood there with everyone criticizing you and blaming you for the team losing, you would know what i mean.

I am teaching cheerleading to middle school and high school students. My plan is to teach for an hour after school on Fridays. My questions are:

1). What time does middle school and high school students let out of school in San Mateo, California?

2). Do students want to take a class after school on a Friday or are you eager to go home?

3). Do students want to take a class right after school ends or would they rather go home first and rest before heading back out for the class?

4). If you were to take this class, what types of things would you want to learn?

Kids have it so tough today, and most of them are bored. In 100 years from now, no1 is going to be here so I say let them have fun and enjoy like while they can. None of them rarely like being in school, and I obviously agree with getting an education, but I think most of the school day is a total waste.

Kids, and when I say kids, I am mainly talking about hs students 13-18, have to worry about peer pressures, and they get way too much homework. With sports, b/f, g/f and so much other stuff they have to worry about, wouldn't it be good to make the day start later (around 9 A.M. and let them out at 1 P.M.?)

I failed a math quiz, and i just found out today. It only had 7 questions. I have failed one last time too, and my parents were mad at me, and this was supposed to be my breakthrough.

I am very terrified of math. During math tests i freeze up like an ice cube. I'm scared to turn in my work to the teacher. That explains why I have three missing assignements. I've been failing math since I first started school. I was always the last to get a math problem. Just the mention of math makes my body sore and my head throb. It's like reading japanese. My grand-daughter said her art teacher told the whole class that he can take them over his knee and spank them,because when they are in school he is their father and can spank them.It started because the other art teacher(female)gets very mad at the kids when they don't do what she says,the kids say they don't understand what she wants she is not making herself clear.When they try to do what she says and do it wrong she starts to cry and says she is quiting.Then she runs to the male teacher to deal with the class.She is like this with all grade 7-10 kids.every single class.Now some of the kids don't even want to go to art any more and some have taken up skipping that class.My grand-daughter is worried she is going to be hit,she will not skip like the other kids and she is trying very hard to do what this woman says.
