Yes, even teachers realize they give a lot of homework but it is not their choice. Under the No Child Left behind laws, every student has to pass certain tests or the teacher can lose his/her job. To make sure you learn all this stuff (some is junk) they have to give lots of homework. There just is not enough time in a school day for you to do it all in the classrooms. You may think teachers have it easy but that is not the case. Even with families & homes, they take work home with them every single night, & week-end. During holidays & summers, teachers are having to take classes just to keep up with their Cont. education credits which they are required to have. This is all done on their own time & out of their own pockets. Most teachers don't make enough money for what they do. They teach because they want to. So before you start complaining about teachers, think about being one & see if you'd like that job. Also think about what the world would be like without them.

I think that one of the reasons teaches give so much homework is to help you learn how to organize your time so that, even though you have a ton of stuff to do, it won't bog you down so much that you can't have a life too. You have to look at all the stuff and prioritize it. What's the most important thing? What comes next? How much time should you spend on each thing? And for projects, make sure you mark the due date on some kind of calendar that you'll see all the time. This helps you spread the work for the project out so that you don't find yourself swamped at the last minute. All of this will take a little getting used to, but in the end you'll do fine. I've been out of school for a very long time and I felt the same as you do when I got loaded with homework.

You need to understand it's not the teachers, it the administrators (their bosses) who are doing this to you.

I suggest you and other students get together and ask your parents to talk to the teachers and administrators about the load you carry daily. You are there to learn, but too much is not good either.

There is a school in California that has a program that was designed by someone at Stanford University that helps students to relieve stress. One of the suggestions was that homework was limited. It worked to help students feel less stressed and work more productively. You may want to check that out and present that to your schools administrators and teaching staff. If you are going to complain, you should also present a solution.

Good luck!

That's high school for you. If you think that's bad then try night school which is what I'm doing and you will be pounded with one weeks work in a night that will be due the day after. I attend twice a week for night school and it's a mad rush of homework daily. So yes to your question that teachers give too much homework. BUT!!! By happy your not in night school because it would be worse!

The thing is, when you finish High School and go to College or some technical school. Then your homework will be a lot more and a lot harder than what you are getting at High School now. And if you are not prepared for it, then you may fail.

Practice makes perfect. And now is the time for you to practice because things are going to get a lot more difficult for you, when you go on to post-secondary education.

haha, welcome to high school.

since youre a freshman, you probably think this is a lot of work, since youre still adjusting, but trust me, once you become a sophomore, junior, or senior, youll get even more work.

im a junior, with APs, and i average about 6-9 hours a day, sometimes more. and guess what? college will only be harder.

the best thing for you to do would be to organize yourself and set a schedule. it may not seem like much, but hey, it helps.
