Try again. After 30 minutes of unfocused focusing, you might find that focus. And then once you get into it, you want to finish. Sometimes when I'm studying I find that I am talking to myself, making gestures with my hands and stuff. Um, okay so calf in Spanish is pantorilla or something like that. I have a funny way of remembering things, but it works. To remember this word I thought of a gorilla wearing pants[jeans], and the pants are covering his calves. Just find what works for you.

Study in a quiet, well lit room that is away from distractions such as the tv, telephone, computer, etc. If you need some kind of background noise you can listen to music but at a decent level so that you can hear it but it's not overpowering. Take a five minute break for every 30-45 minutes of study you do.

I wish I had found that answer when I was in school! I was diagnosed ADHD at 25. Music is what always worked for me. Put the headphones on and keep VISUAL distraction to a minimum.
Also, learn to use lists. This gives you a concrete routine to adapt to.
