I am very terrified of math. During math tests i freeze up like an ice cube. I'm scared to turn in my work to the teacher. That explains why I have three missing assignements. I've been failing math since I first started school. I was always the last to get a math problem. Just the mention of math makes my body sore and my head throb. It's like reading japanese. So please help?

You might want to be tested for a form of dyslexia that deals with numbers. If this is not the problem, then you are dealing with a phobia and would need to see a therapist.

The only way to conquer your fear is to face it. You have admitted that you have a problem with math that is a good thing. Now that you recognize this you need to do something about it. First things is to ask for help. Try to get a tutor or get into a after school math program. Get help. Second is to pratice and put some time and energy into becoming better at math. Third things is to stop being afaird because you are not the only person to struggle with math, most people including me struggle with math. Ask your teacher, school couselor or principal for help. They can point you in the right direction so that you can get the help you need.

No, you don't have a learning disability. You have the educational equivalent of stage fright.

What you need to do is get someone to work WITH you on these problems. Talk to your teacher and explain to him/ her that for some reason math aboslutely terrifies you. If you explain it rationally, and tell the teacher that you really want to overcome this but you need someone to work with you to help you not find math so scary, there may be things he or she can do to help you on a more one-on-one level so it's not such a bad experience for you.

Be honest, and you'll find that 90% of teachers (I'd like to say 100% but I'm no fool) who have students who have a genuine desire to learn-- but who are blocked by whatever it is-- whether it be lack of talent or fear-- will come to the party and try to help you.

Take it slowly. Do bits at a time. But first you have to explain it to someone PROPERLY. Once that anxiety is shared, it will lessen, and you can get help.

Good luck!

Yes you could have a learning disability. What have your teachers said about this? Have they tried to help?
It is all too common for teachers to just pass the kids on and not help. This is the reason for you getting thru all those grades and still don't know how to do math.

On the other hand, schools do not legally have to help with ANY problem UNLESS the child is in special ed or have 504 plan.

Tell your parents to write to district sped director requesting a full educational eval specified by IDEA law to see if you qualify for special ed.

By this law, if you qualify you are NOT suppose to be put in a 'special room'. You are suppose to be in a regular classroom and getting your specail ed help in there.

If you do not succeed, THEN you are placed in another setting that WILL help you.

No, you have a bit of a phobia and possibly you are not as adept at math as others are, which is not abnormal, just average.
