I am teaching cheerleading to middle school and high school students. My plan is to teach for an hour after school on Fridays. My questions are:

1). What time does middle school and high school students let out of school in San Mateo, California?

2). Do students want to take a class after school on a Friday or are you eager to go home?

3). Do students want to take a class right after school ends or would they rather go home first and rest before heading back out for the class?

4). If you were to take this class, what types of things would you want to learn?

I hate to say it, but they will not get far on 1 hour per week. Or are you supplementing what the coach is doing? When I was in high school we practiced 2 hours every weekday, and then also on Saturdays as we got closer to competition time.

My elementary/middle school kids practice:

Mon: 2:30-3:30
Fri: 2:30-4:00
Sat: 2:00-4:00

In answer to your questions:

1) Call the superintendent's office or the schools themselves to get a confirmation of when the school day ends.

2 & 3) In my experience it is easier to get them right after school than to have them come back in.

4) If they have zero background in cheering then they need to learn all the basics. If you are going to do stunting, make sure you have a safe area to do it in and that all the kids know how to do safety spotting and stunt correctly. (Of course, you probably already know that, in which case I apologize for preaching to the choir. :^) )

The site below will give you some ideas on what to teach. There are also lists of coaching resources such as websites, books, and videos that have been helpful to me. (I hadn't cheered in 15 years when I started coaching, so I had a lot of changes to catch up on.)

Okay, I'll try to help! :)

1. I'm not in San Mateo, so I'm not sure, but I'm guessing probably around 3 pm.

2. Most kids will be eager to go home, but some may stay.

3. Do it straight after school. Even the kids that want to do it will be less likely to, and getting rides can be a pain.

4. I would teach basic gymnastics and cheers to start with.

If the youngster is familiar with his stuff-then he can instruct, we see in our federal government daily from the President to the congress grown adult men and girls who do no longer understand a thank you to steer, so what if a newborn teaches Sunday college. so some distance as i understand there is no regulation in contrast.
