I haven't worked to my potential in my first two years of high school. The first semester of my junior year isn't going to be that great, since I was ill the first quarter, and I was forced to accept the F's. The second quarter won't be bad.

Now, if I get a 4.0 the second semester of my junior year, and the first semester of my senior year, what are my chances in getting into UMD?

I can't give you a specific answer to your question, but I can say that the Fs for the first grading period aren't what's going to count so much as your final grades for the year in those subjects. Why not talk with your teachers and find out whether you can do anything to offset the Fs? The fact that you missed class because of illness should carry some weight with them, and there may some way to make up the work you missed even at this late date.

Good luck with getting into UMD!
