Kids have it so tough today, and most of them are bored. In 100 years from now, no1 is going to be here so I say let them have fun and enjoy like while they can. None of them rarely like being in school, and I obviously agree with getting an education, but I think most of the school day is a total waste.

Kids, and when I say kids, I am mainly talking about hs students 13-18, have to worry about peer pressures, and they get way too much homework. With sports, b/f, g/f and so much other stuff they have to worry about, wouldn't it be good to make the day start later (around 9 A.M. and let them out at 1 P.M.?)

Well, I agree with you regarding the *length* of the school day, but not your rationale.

I heard a story on NPR about starting the school day later - data has shown that adolescents naturally sleep later because they NEED to. Plus, it's a circadian rhythm thing. teenagers are less likely to be "tuned in" earlier in the morning.

And as for skipping out on an education - e.g. learning to read to be a functional adult (I know that's what they're facing because I'm a HS teacher) - I disagree. For a boyfriend/girlfriend? Because of peer pressure?

I get Peer Pressure all day long - as an adult. It's something we must all develop a thick skin for.

But - you're on to something - our current educational model is a joke - and needs to be upended with reform to better reflect our Gen Y kids' needs.

No, the day should actually be longer. Kids are bored because we are still teaching them the way they were being taught 50 years ago.

We overstimulate kids with TV, DVDs, Video Games and the like. Then we ask them to go to school and sit still for 7 hours.

We need to come up with new and interactive ways to stimulate the child's learning processes. It is being done in schools all around the world, at much lower cost than here.

We need to pay teachers more, but it must be on merit, not tenure. I grew up in a union household, but the NEA needs to go. It is the biggest obstacle to our children getting a good education.

i think they should keep the hours of school the same but not give them homework, because kids are working 7 hours a day then gettin home and doing homework for another 2 hours. so they do not have alot chillax time.

yeah i think the day should be shorter. but your a moron. kids need a better education, or else they will turn into a dumbass like you .

im jking man. but really it should be shorter, but more because of reasons such as more sleep and health issues. Not so they can spend time with their g/f or b/f. thats not why kids go to school

Ha ha ha ha ha! A large number of kids are leaving school illiterate as it is, most of the current generation of school kids will be gone in 100 years so your argument not only has no merit, but makes no sense either!!

It should be longer. Like the chinese. They are pretty smart the education ones. It should be from 8-5pm. I guess you'll always be an idiot.
