I just had my daughter tested by a psychologist and the results of the testing is that she has dyslexia. She is 9 and I'm not sure how to explain dyslexia to her? Any advice?

Anyone knows where I could go to test my 6 1/2 (Year 2) son test for IQ?
He is bilingual (French/English) born in England and has some serious difficulties at school with his reading/writing... I know he is still very young but I am aware of his difficulties academicaly. Any thoughts?
No points mentionning Educ psychologist as his needs are apparently not big enough to be considered...

Im am writing a argumentitive essay for my English class and I was wondering, do essays really help students learn? Those who are skilled at writing and enjoy it will get the better grade than those who don't, so is it really fair to have students write to show what they learn or does it even help them learn? Facts and statistics would be nice.

My child was attacked on a school bus for a student in the same grade, but different class. We advised the school, but were told that they were not responsble for what happens on a school bus. Is that true? I would still think that they should take some measures to deal with the student.

I have a student who reads well and is quite bright, but he tends to mix up or leave out a few sounds or letters. He doesn't make many mistakes and his spelling is probably within average. Should I tell him or it doesn't matter. He has good marks.

With regards to all the teachers who feel that a disruptive child should not be taught.....

Ask yourself this do you do a vocation?

Does a nurse do a vocation?

What if a nurse turned around and said that she/he would not help someone who self harmed?

Should a teacher be able to turnaround and say they will not teach someone who dosn't want to be teached?

Teachers are here to teach....Seems to be a common response. What about teachers teaching respect and discipline?. Should a teacher who feels intimidated by a 14 year old really consider a career change?..I think so..As for one child disrupting a class, then yes I agree it shouldn't happen, but a teacher dosn't have to shout the pupil down in front of the class he can remove him and do it after lesson, without the need for back up and suspensions. A teachers job is not only to teach the willing but also to convert the unwilling surely?....

My brother is a 12 year old moderate dyslexic.
He stutters a lot and has difficulty expressing himself in every language he knows. He speaks english at home and italian in school. He takes ages to do his homework and to study.
Anyone have any similar experiences?..
Teachers are not tolerant with him. Mom is constantly getting notes from teachers in his homework book on his 'dreamlike' behaviour and forgetfulness.
