Children will have developed their own strategies and coping skills for problem solving - if they can plot their ideas in their first language or talk them through it helps the process. Students should also be allowed to answer in their own language and then attempt it in their newly acquired language. This aids confidence and allows them to show you what they can do.

It is important for initial understanding of what is being taught. However, it is equally important that all immigrants, not just children, learn the major language of that part of the country they have settled in. Competency in that language should be a requirement of citizenship.

I used to wonder that, until I took a university philosophy class from a man who speaks 7 languages (english being the 7th). Learning something complicated from someone that just listening to is complicated is nearly impossible.

Unless they are fluently bilingual, which most children are not, people think and form ideas in their first language. Therefore its important to receive any education or training in first language.

i think I dont extremely understand your question. I extremely have a nephew that's Persian and American. So, who determines what his first language is? His first sort of communique grow to be sign language. yet he now speaks Farsi and English. It grow to be exceptionally difficult for him and he started talking later than maximum toddlers. hence he grow to be taught sign language because of the fact he mandatory to speak in some sort.
