It would help make for better attendance and on-time startups, but as long as there is a teacher's union, they will never go for it.
It is true that we perform our best mental analysis in the morning hours, despite what some people feel like when they awake. It is also true that we lose some of our "edge" after lunch hour, which could only make a long afternoon, even longer.
If we could stretch our day out another hour, we could add a short segment of exercise that would give us a burst of energy. That energy would help us and the students to recharge for the afternoon session. Usually, we lose students by 1:30. After that, they don't absorb anything.
I would suggest maintain an early start up time, to keep the students from dozing off at midday.

well- im in 8th grade and in the high school.
my school starts at 7:25 or ur considered late. i wake up at 5:45, get on my bus around 6:20-6:30, get to school at 7:00 and just hang out until the first bell. i dont think school should start later because school is dismissed at 2:15 and im home by 2:40 so i wouldnt want to get home ANY later!!! =]

YES.
Most kids in my first block classes end up sleeping or coming in late- missing the lesson. My school starts are 7:15. It's still dark outside when we show up for school, so being teenagers, our brains automatically register that its early and we should be sleeping. Therefore, we do. And we fail classes because of it.
After school activities are optional. If it ran too late, or interfered with your schedule or homework, just don't join. That's why its called EXTRA curricular.

Here in the UK we start at around 8.30 and finish at 15.00, which isn't too bad but i wouldn't want it to be any earlier, and not much later as i couldn't do very much after school

no, because then it would have to go later in the day and you would not have time to play with Friends or even do your homework.
P.S.by the way I'm home schooled so i don't have to wake up early.
P.P.S i wake up at 9 O. clock

No, you should go to bed by 8:00 everynight. Staying up late isn't a reason to make the rest of the school wait till you wake up and are prepared. Eat well and get 8 hours sleep.

I think starting school before 8am is barbaric. Some kids are at school before the sun comes up.
